Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The snow has come and with the exhilaration from my boys comes the mess. The sloppy floors, the increase in laundry because everyone is WET. And my frustration over - hats and gloves. I have a tote that I store all the hats, gloves, scarves, etc in. But when they come in and they are drenched I obviously cannot shove them in there.
People with a few children do not understand.
I have four boys. When they all go out, I have to deal with the mess when the all come back in.
How do others deal with it? I need to keep the gloves paired up. I need to know where the hats that fit each child are. AND we live in a small house so storage is stretched to a minimum.
Help?
Jill

When dc were younger we used a retractable clothesline similar to this for hanging wet clothing after outdoor play. I really liked that it could be reeled in when not in use and didn't take up any floor space like a laundry rack would. You could easily install one in a hallway, entryway, stairway, bathroom or anyplace that would be most convenient for dc to hang their wet items as soon as they come inside. If you don't have much free space, hanging one along a wall uses up less room space, especially if you wanted to keep the line extended, which can be a handy way to keep winter gear sorted and easily accessible.

Our challenge always seems to be where to park the boots, especially since everyone in our household wears adult size footwear now! Oh well, 'tis that time of year, again!

The clothes line is a really good idea. I had not thought of that.
Boots - ugh. I have one so far in adult sized shoes the rest not yet. Right now they are all piled in the bathroom in front of the washer and dryer. I cannot keep them close to the door as my lovely dog loves shoes.

But we do have a shoe rack by the front door it is just a matter of them getting there.
We also have a coat rack, ironically my husbands clothing takes up most of it. He has too many coats!
Thank you I will try to decide where to put that clothes line as it is a really good idea!

I saw a tip that I plan to try this year. It was to hang a length of clothesline vertically over your closet rod or coat hook or wherever, and use clothespins to attach the mittens and hats. I think it will be easier to find space for it this way.

Tracy that works really well.. a nail on a wall somewhere handy lets you hang hats and mittens to it where they can dry.

And don't husbands end up with the MOST outerwear???

Coat hooks are wonderful. My front door opens against a wall but there's enough space behind it to put up hooks. We put 1x2 boards on the wall so they're attached to studs, painted them the same color as the wall and then put double hooks up. We put 3 levels of boards and put 5 hooks on top and bottom and 4 in the middle so that they're staggered a bit. And yep around here every hook is full.

When things are that wet (it's often pretty dry here even with snow) I've put hooks in the ceiling in the living room near the woodstove and hang a "rope ladder" styel clothes line so that I can get everything up to dry.. easy to take the line down when I want my living room to look nice.. but otherwise it handles the wet pretty well.
