Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was asking about Signing Time videos today in the Special Blessings Forum.

I put ds down for a nap, and then hear a cry for help -- "Mommy, something is in my ear!"

Well, he put a small piece of plastic (fell from the window) into his ear.

I couldn't get it out, and was actually pushing it further in the canal. I called the doctor, they said come over, so we drove to the doctors' office, signed in and sat down. I looked over and it had fallen out of his ear, so we got back in the car and drove home.

Why, oh why, do some children put things in their ears? What possesses them? My siblings never did this...and most of my nephews and nieces haven't done this.

I'm glad it wasn't serious and it's something I can laugh about...but this little one is certainly keeping me on my toes!

I love to tell my kids this story about 2 doctors/parents of a friend in high school. Read with a strong Irish accent:

He woke in the night to a terrible pounding in his ear. so he shook his wife and said, "Mary, Mary, there is something pounding in my ear! Will you look at it?"

As she rolled over she said, "Ach, Joseph, go back to sleep! It's nothing." He tried again and again to have her look in his ear, but each time she told him to leave her alone.

In the morning, when he got to work, he had a colleague look to find out it was......an adult cockroach.    It had crawled in young, grown up, and (after he was found) died there.

My friend pointed out that her dad had typical Irish hygeine which contributed to the situation. Now my kids keep everything but soap and a washcloth well away from their ears, but their noses are another story....

PS Their names are really Mary and Joseph which makes it even funnier to me!

Rachel... Love it!

Not looking forward to the objects in the nose.

I called my husband and told him it must come from his side. He said mostly what he did as a child was eat money. MANY times.

Probably marks the beginning of the making of an accountant.

This reminds me of when dd's nose swelled up and dh found two whole kernals of corn in it! She was around 18 mo., I think. We then realized she had a habit of stuffing things up her nose.

Glad it worked out, Jenn. It could have been tramatic if they had to dig it out!

Jenn -- I'm sure if you ask your mom, your son is payback!

Nope, not at all! I was the perfect child. Well, not perfect, but I didn't cause as much stress to her as some of the other siblings.

Well, then blame your dear hubby! -- after all it can't be just natural two-year hijinks!

Oh, my 1st dd put a rock up her nose. It took me so long to decipher what she was telling me. First, I thought she had to blow her nose because she asked for tissue, then I thought she wanted to go for a walk (she kept saying "wock"). Finally, it dawned on me. It was so far up there (of course on a Saturday), we had to take her to the ER. They had to suction it out. She's been my problem child with injuries and such (broken arm at 16 months). She definitely gets that from dh.

Dh broke bones, sprained ankles, stitches...lots of trips to the ER...I can blame him.

But OTOH, I'm happy I have an active child full of curiosity and life.
