Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This has been a difficult winter of illness in our family. I had a flu that took me almost 2 months to shake, and feeling yucky and very low-energy has had a very negative impact on our family routines. The last few months have been very haphazard. I'm giving myself plently of grace, since I know this has been a unique time. I gave birth and adopted a baby within 10 weeks, and nursed them both for 6 months, and am still nursing one.

However, I have really felt impacted in my immune system and energy level. I am 31 and many days feel "old." I drink coffee in the afternoon ! I read this board and visit many of your blogs....and I SEE the amazing activities you are doing with your families! And many of you have significantly more children than me, and are still having babies. I'm wondering if there are some health tricks that I need to learn....

How do you keep up your energy and support you immune system? I know that illness is part of living in this fallen world, and an opportunity to share in Christ's sufferings, but I also want to be wise and do all I can to maintain good health in order to meet my family's needs. Any wisdom is appreciated.

OK, after reading the above, it sounds like I'm blaming my ills on birth and nursing....
I will also add, I need to lose 15lbs, I never exercise, I eat haphazardly (and too much sugar), I take NO vitamins or supplements. I DO get decent sleep. OK...now let me have it!

No way Shawna
Have you had your thyroid tested? Beyond that, I tend to have low energy and low blood pressure too. I also drink coffee daily. My best suggestion is Vit. B complex and a good pre-natal supplement even while you're nursing, thyroid testing, and 4-6wk. rounds of a good Echinachea supplement(with 3-4 wks.off). Even if you don't change your diet significantly you might benefit from injecting some protein at every meal and snack. I haven't been eating enough or sleeping lately but those are the things I think are helping.

Oh.....also....I know the things I can't digest well make me feel sluggish...like beef and cheeses...o.k. let me have it!

I agree about getting your thyroid level checked. I also found that I was low in vitamin B6. Otherwise I just try to drink lots of water.

i had thyroid issues (6 cysts) and similar 'symptoms.' my hormone levels were normal but i still felt sluggish. i cut out all sugar and flour for 3 months and felt so very much better. it wasn't nearly as hard to do as it sounded and the difference was amazing.

hope you feel better!
