Okay, you feel strange when you think your a pro at motherhood and then one kid is different. 
My sweet baby boy, almost 9 months won't eat ANYTHING. And I'm not kidding. He refuses bananas, cereal, squash, pears, on and on. . .
I've tried organic canned, organic homemade, etc.
He just wants to nurse and nurse and nurse.
He doesn't appear to be losing weight and he's so chubby and strong.
Do you suppose its just a stage and he'll like it soon? Did anyone else have a baby like this? My others weren't huge eaters, but they liked bananas and sweet things like applesauce and pears, ground chicken, etc.
Any ideas or consoling remarks?

Hey, Sarah. While I haven't had this experience, I did have a friend who didn't feed her son solids till 10 months old. He just nursed, and he was a fine, fat baby! So I wouldn't stress to much about it.
For what it's worth, when my sister's kids were babies (they're 17 and 15 now) her pediatrician recommended not starting solids till they were 12 months--that sure is different than the current rec, and the babies were fine back then, too

I have big babies too and my 4th didn't care to eat much solid food until around 11 months. I have heard many similar stories when I used to go to La Leche League meetings many years ago. It doesn't seem uncommon for breastfed babies...its nice when they are chubby and strong... to show you that they are thriving.

You are a pro in my book, Sarah! A pro at motherhood is one who knows that we can never "master" motherhood and can ask for help and reassurance when we need it!
My four children started solids closer to 11 months. This is very common among breastfed children. Just keep an eye on their diapers, making sure that they are having wets (connected to the first part of the nursing session) and soils (connected to the last part of the nursing session.) Continue to look for overall wellness in energy level and hydration. Offer food but there is no need to force.

My friend with nine children (also a La Leche League Leader) had a baby who would not eat solids for 18 months. The child was simply not interested. Then when she was ready, tried everything in sight.
BTW, I think you are a great mom Sarah!

My daughters except the my 11 month old refused baby food and started right in on table food at 12 months. My second daughter is the best eater and she refused everything until 12 months. She was also my chubbiest breastfed baby. With my oldest daughter, she had some texture issues so she really did not like mushy food in her mouth.

My three girls were all not very interested in solids, particularly anything that came on a spoon. I just started giving them tiny pieces of finger food at the table with us - more as a way to have them join us for dinner than anything else. I'll even give them some bread to gnaw on so that they can be with us at the table.
They are all happy and healthy, and starting at about 11 months invariably start eating more and more foods. My middle dd will eat anything, and loves things with very "adult" tastes, and my almost 2yo adds a new food to her "repetoire" almost every week.
Please don't worry. if he is nursing, is chubby and healthy and gaining, then you are doing everything right! Keep introducing foods when you sit down to eat, or try finger foods if he can manage that. A soft well-steamed carrot, a piece of banana, some bagel. HTH!

 We were just discussing this on Magnum Opus yesterday! My aunt was concerned that I am totally sustaining my very chubby, 8 month old baby. So I asked what other moms thought about it.
I start food quite late with my babies because I am lazy and it's so much easier to nurse till they can finger feed.
My babies are off the charts in their weights and sleep well, are content etc. I was just feeling a little odd and earthy since no one else in my family (sisers, cousins) nurses this way.
So, I guess the consensus is that we're doing great, Sarah!

I just posted on the fertility poll thread about how the delay of solids delayed fertility. I remember reading that it is better to wait to give solids until baby has teeth. I saved a lot of money not buying baby food for our last two. They had no interest in babyfood. So we just waited until they could feed themselves. Neither were eating at nine months. Our daughter exclusively nursed until nearly a year. She suddenly wanted what was on my plate and we just shared what she could eat. It was really fun to watch children discover food when they haven't had mushy food already.
Enjoy this special time nursing your baby. It goes by so fast!

He's so happy, healthy, and wiggly, that he must be fine!

Yep - none of my 3 have ever wanted the slightest bit of real food until over the age of 1. It drove my sisters and my mom nuts.
Honestly, my kids have never at any food of any real substantial amount until 18mo to 2yrs old. I thought it was something wrong with my parenting until #3 came along and she is just like the other two and they are all busy turning out just fine.

Ditto on what everyone else says. I nurse like Bridget described, it's so much easier than feeding baby food and is lots neater--and to be truthful, none of my babies have shown the least interest in baby food or soft finger foods until around 12 months. My littlest one right now didn't show much of an interest in any food, whatsover, until 16 months old...she is just now eating a bit here and there, I'd still say she nurses for 75% of her nutrition and she's 19 months old!

It was my #7 who made me feel like I was starting all over again! He was my first who WOULD eat solids ! ate them like he was starving and he was consistently around the 5th percentile for weight. Oh dear. I really worried about it and spent lots of time and effort shovelling in extra calories... putting butter on eggs and potatoes, buying avocadoes out of season, trying to bulk him up. But he was ALWAYS healthy and active. He's still skinny and still healthy and typically developing. It's just him I guess! he's still nursing too at age 3. I guess we can't ever be experts because the baby is always unique!

This is so funny!
I have a super skinny one. They sure make a mother worry! He's fine, though--healthy and active.
When he was 3, he had to wear 12-18 month size shorts so they wouldn't fall down! Now at almost 5 he wears 3T size pants and looks like he's waiting for a flood.
The best invention for these types are those sizable elastic band at the GAP  but they sure are $$$$!!

He sounds like my first baby!
She refused solids until she was over a year old. She wouldn't even try her birthday cake! She started eating enthusiastically around 15 months, once she could hold her own spoon and fork and feed herself!
She is a healthy little girl, hardly ever gets sick, and is very slender. I think that's just the way God made her. Her appetite (at almost 7 years old) is just fine now.
During the time she wouldn't eat, a La Leche League Leader told me that she might have some food allergies and that some babies refuse solids for that reason. Sort of the body's wisdom? She was sensitive to milk as a toddler, so this may have been true for her. I'm sure your little guy is fine and he will eat when he's ready.
