Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 10 year old has always felt a calling to become a religious sister when she grows up . My husband and I have encouraged this somewhat, but not overly. I do not want to be an influence, I want her to lsiten to God. This is becoming increasingly difficult for me (the not being influential part, we are totally onboard with the idea).

So my questions are....
1) could you please pray for our family, and all families, as children discern their callings

2) How do I support her without causing undue influence? She can be a "pleaser" and I want her to not do something this big to please anyone except God.

Thanks

Tell her exactly that. That whatever she is called to she must discern it and do what is pleasing to GOD and God alone. Repeat it often. If she is prone to being a pleaser than that is the way God has made her and it is a trait that can be developed into something very holy or something disordered. Your job as her mother is to help her realize that seeking to please God is a very good thing and so long as pleasing others is in line with that it's good too. But we must always, always seek first the Kingdom of God, WHATEVER that means for our path and vocation.

Pray and pray and pray. God has made you her mother for a reason. Ask for the grace to guide her well. You concern about it shows that you are thinking correctly. I will keep you all in prayer.

I was just given a good piece of advice. That at this point (a "younger" child) that the things to develop are the same things that would make her a wonderful wife and mother.
