Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If dc are in sports, tell me what your younger dc bring to do. . . I know, I have been there done that myself - I just feel in a sort of rut with younger ds (8) just doing his nintendo ds or watching a movie on our portable dvd. And - all double headers - so we are at the fields on Saturdays for at least 4 hours. Active stuff in fine (except not bike as we are still working on balance without training wheels). Also, it is still upper 90's here and hot (at least my dd (14) in softball - well softball really isn't the most active sport they gets tons of "breaks" when they aren't out in the field - sitting in the shaded dug out. Also, haven't seen ANY younger siblings there yet - ds is usually the ONLY younger sibling there.

Guess I am feeling guilty about letting him watch too much on the dvd player (one of those small, portable ones) and play nintendo ds.

No judgmental comments please. (sorry, asked this on another board and got the - you shouldn't have to pack for him, he should entertain himself stutt. Gee it is 4 hours and softball is boring to watch - find it hard to entertain myself!). Just trying to get ds and I out of a rut and see what other bring to do at a sports event that long.

My dd(10) brings her volleyball and practices with it. A jump rope, a ball to kick around, a scooter, bubbles if he still does that. Play I Spy, 20 Questions or other word games or use activity books like the Anti-Coloring Book. Just a few things that came to mind. I find it hard to keep my 5 yo entertained, so I'm right there with you. We're lucky that we have a playground at our fields, so my dd(10) or my ds(13) will take the 5 yo over there for at least part of the game.

What a shame there are no other younger sibs from your dd's team for him to play with. It makes it much harder.

Good luck.

Anita

Hey - I like I spy and 20 questions! I completely forgot about those! I am with you with the playground - they are few and far between at the fields here - towns just don't spend the money to put in playgrounds near the fields anymore!

Does he have a friend that he might be able to invite along some of the time?

A few hot wheels (what will fit in his pockets) keeps my 8 yr busy for some time.

It's a good time to practise his own skills at the sport if he's so inclined.

My eldest plays soccer and when possible the whole family attends practices and games. I always bring an extra ball for my daughter to play with, a few picture books and snacks. We also go on nature walks along the edge of the fields and gather fallen leaves, pinecones, acorns and a wildflower of two.

How sad there are no other younger siblings to play with at the field. My kids keep busy by playing with the many other kids at the baseball field. They'll sometimes play on the tball field (kickball, baseball or some game they make up)
let's see.. 8 yr old boy?
If he enjoys reading he could always bring a book and a chair. Get some school reading done too!
Fun books like where's Waldo or a Lego book keep my boys occupied for hours : )
Legos or knex with a tub to keep from losing small parts
Paper and markers or watercolors to be creative

Mine pack their own backpack with some things. I think making it their choice has helped a bit. They can bring some books, coloring stuff, small toys.

Not sure how much that helps, especially since we don't usually have to be at the field for nearly so long.
