Dear Ladies,
I am not sure this is the right place to post this if not can someone direct me to the right topic.
I know I have been absent for so long but I am hoping some of you can help me.
Our new little baby Trahaearn seems to be suffering from colic much like our other boys have or from reflux.
He likes to be held upright and I am trying to get hold of a good pattern and turotial on a moby wrap. I ahve tried on line but really can't seem to get a pattern and tutorial on wearing one either.
I am hoping someone will have one and some advice on what type of fabric is the best to make it out of.
We cannot buy one locally and would have to order online otherwise, assuming I am willing to pay the price which is probably out of our budget.
So I would appreicate anyone who can help as sson as you can.
Blessings

I was going to suggest the Australlian Breastfeeding Association Slings, I love mine. Baby is upright, hands are free, very easy to put on, great on the back and dh and dc can adjust easily. However I just did a search for moby wraps, they look lovely! I found this tutorial.

Gae, another great resource for babywearing is The Babywearer. There are tutorials, pros/cons for different kinds of slings, and a FSOT forum. I've never personally used a Moby. I always used a pouch for the first several months and the Ergo after that.
Hope that helps!!! Prayers that your little one will find some comfort soon.

A friend sent me a length of fabric in a stretchy gauze type of fabric to use as a wrap with an infant.. so it doesn't have to be expensive at all.. actually you usually get two from a length of fabric because fabric is so wide.. you cut it in the middle down the length. oh and I'd get a longer piece to start with.. it's real easy to shorten if you decide there's too much.. but if you want more.. hard to add it
If you don't want a stretchy wrap.. I've been told that osnaburg fabric is really good for a wrap/sling that is not stretchy.. you want the non-stretchy to be able to wear baby on your back as well.. and with a wrap you should be able to do a high back carry even with a tiny one so that you truly have your hands free for doing stuff instead of reaching around the baby on your front.
Here's some directions

Moby wraps are made from stretch/jersey cotton, which is basically the material thicker T-shirts are made out of. I honestly don't see that quality of material at my local fabric store (they have only the thinner stuff), but maybe you can find it there? It is basically a very long rectangle with tapered ends and serged edges, so it would not be hard to make if you can find a fabric you're comfortable with. You can always make a regular wrap out of cotton gauze or something with a weave, though I do like the stretchy ones the best for newborns. They just seem a bit softer against the skin and easier to adjust with baby already inside.

I know a lady that makes moby type wraps. I know a few people that used jersey cotton, but they told me that after a little while it loses its elasticity.
When I went to go and buy jersey cotton, after pricing it out, found that it was the same price as buying it new....
Anyways, I asked the lady what kind of fabric she used and she told me she uses speaker fabric...you know the fabric that covers speakers for your stereo? Ya, that stuff....she said it lasted way longer than jersey cotton and didn't lose its elasticity...I have no idea how much it costs though...

Just as an aside..
Gripe water just about saved our sanity when baby #9 was colicy. She was still colicy, but not nearly as badly.
