My youngest turns 10 in a few days and is still really keen to have a theme/shape birthday cake. In the back of my mind I thought I saw some really good ideas on a member of the forums blog but can't remember where.Wondering/hoping someone else knows or could share ideas.

Joann's daughter makes beautiful cakes and she links to those sometimes. Maybe you have seen them.

Boy or girl? In our house turning 10 is traditionally a 10 cake. Make 2 round cakes. Cut one into a "1" by cutting off the sides. Then cut a hole out of the center of the other one. They fit nicely on a cookie sheet. Have fun Annie

a lego cake is pretty easy to make with a rectangle cake with cupcakes to make the bumps on the top

I know that Dawn is a member, but these two blogs I enjoy and have had some great birthday themes.
Here at Shower of Roses is a whole page with links to her great themed birthday ideas. This is one creative mom.
Dawn has neat ideas, and for one sons birthday, she made a lego theme. It is near the bottom of this page at By Sun and Candlelight.

This isn't exactly what you are looking for, but I wanted to post our fun birthday cake tradition. The birthday kid & I bake a two layer round cake and frost it. The birthday kid then decorates it with a variety of candy he/she picked out at the grocery store. By the time they are done, it is a full sugar masterpiece!

Well, for a girl, here is a link to a cute princess crown cake. It actually could be used for a boy or girl. My personal favorite, for a boy, would be this motocross cake. It doesn't look nearly as involved as some can be. Good luck!

And this frog cake was pretty easy

I can only give boy ideas since that's all we have here but some of the popular ones have been a fire truck, a train with cars filled with candy freight and a volcano decorated with plastic dinosaurs that oozed lava (strawberry pie filling) when cut.

My wonderful daughter came up with this cake which satisfied my Volkswagen crazy 10yo son. Especially as it had a personalized number plate with exactly what he plans to call his first beetle when he saves up enough to buy it lols
Thanks for all the ideas

Have you ever seen the ideas in Family Fun magazine. We've made several cakes from their ideas. You can go to their website and pull up birthday cake ideas.
Some favorites were a Candy Land cake decorated like the game board, monkey and owl cupcakes, and a garbage dump cake that was sprinkled with Oreo and graham cracker crumbs to look like dirt. All of these were very simple to make! If I can make them...anyone can!

This site has every cake I think you can imagine. My ds turned 10 today and he wanted a circuit board cake, very fun. Yours for double digits!
