Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know that some herbs and hearbal teas can affect the breastmilk - does anyone know if DECAF green tea would affect my supply (increase/decrease)? Thanks!

I don't think it does.. but that's just off the top of my head.. caffiene can effect supply.. because it's diuretic.. and decaffinated teas still have some caffiene but very low amounts so I wouldn't worry about it myself.

But if you're struggling with supply then you'd need to be more careful than otherwise.

It also depends on why you want to drink it and in what quantities.

If you need help keeping your supply up there's some good herbal teas out there for that.

My supply is fine .... I just didn't want to compromise it, that's all. I enjoy drinking green tea (in moderation) and would like to have a glass or two a day. Thanks for your input Jodie!

Actually camellia sinensis (black, green or white tea) as an herb is considered a galactagogue - meaning it increases milk production.

~From The Nursing Mother's Herbal - by Sheila Humphrey

When we counsel breastfeeding moms regarding caffeine it is usually with cautions regarding its effect as a stimulant and not as a diuretic (as the amount needed to see the diuretic effect is higher). The stimulant effect is watched more as it might affect the baby. But many babies are not affected by it or only when amount of caffeine are quite high - higher than most bf moms are drinking. And in this case decaf is going to minimize exposure- though as Jodie pointed out it is not really completely eliminated.
