Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Vote (one choice at a time) as often as is fitting! If you have time, please do share your experience and tips via replies.

I purposely didn't include "other" or "all of the above" to "challenge" us to choose TOP challenges although I'm sure many would agree that the volume of challenges IS the challenge!

Years ago I read the book, Unplug the Christmas Machine with Chapter 2 called, "Women: The Christmas Magicians." Although I don't remember many details of the book, I do recall the reminder to look carefully at the expectations that I place on myself.

What challenges have you let go of so that you can better focus on higher priorities? What challenges would you like to do with more joy and ease? What challenges have you overcome and how did you do it?

Blessed Advent!

Love,

You know, I think everyone in my family should take responsibility for revealing at least one really good personal or material desire by mid-November. I really do feel burdened with listening for hints; do they really mean what they say as a casual comment or do they really want that? It does make me a little nervous trying to figure it all out.

Silly,I know. But I have to consciously stop and remind myself that I'm being silly and just get on with it.

It's harder when the kids are older. For example: 4 new tires is a great thing to have given to you so that you don't have to buy them yourself. But that doesn't make for fun unwrapping on Christmas morning - they get bought and immediately put on at the garage.

Peace,
Nancy

Nancy, I have a friend that hands out a "favorites" questionaire to her kids.. and makes it as specific or not as she'd like.. so like.. what's your favorite fragrance at a particular store (that sells lotions and soaps and such).. or what's your favorite snack food.. or color or.. well just whatever she's wanting some definate answers to.

An basically the holidays just tend to emphasize the things I struggle with normally which is keeping up on the every day things.. cleaning the house, doing the schoolwork.. things that can be a struggle to do consistently.. we do them.. but in fits and starts and we might do lots one day and none the next and things like that.

I voted Home Education and Home Care.
I intended to take a break from our MA schedule and do a Advent unit study, but very very little is happening there.

And the house stuff is falling way way behind too.... I keep blaming it on the pregnancy, but seriously shouldn't the energy be coming back by now? I am 15 weeks today!

Vanessa, I didn't get my energy back for a long time the last time--not til about, oh, 17 weeks?...and we were having twins (I was 21 wks when we found out about the twin thing). Just something to think about.

Really, for me, it depends on the year. Some years, it is one thing, some years, it is another. This year, the schoolwork has fallen by the wayside, while the house is clean. But in the last three weeks, we've had to spend (unexpectedly) $1000 on replacing our septic tank pump, and getting it pumped out, fixing the tv, replacing a hot water heater for $300, and another $500 on car repairs (that there was no way to do cheaper--DH could not do them, due to not having the tools).

So gifts this year, we are grateful for generous and childless relatives. Normally, I try to buy things earlier in the year, but things have been tight all year (this has been the year of appliance breakdown/repair), coming to a head right now.

Health wise, we all got sick for Thanksgiving. We've had company in twice, and more coming before/right around Christmas.

I don't think that there is one area that is really "good" this year...they are all in some stage of "disfunction".

Unfortunately.

Rachel
