I was wondering what differences anyone noticed in their bodies, or extra care that needed to be taken when pregnant after 5 + babies, and being 35 +
I'm just 4 weeks preg yesterday, but I've been noticing my ligaments have been loose for the past few days. This usually doesn't give me any probs until late 2nd trim, but last night I musn't have sat with enough support while on the computer and I've had a sore back all last night and this morning

Belly and Back Support
Compression Hose for my legs -- helps with varicose veins....but even if you don't have them, people have said that they help give extra support and help you fell better.
Especially during the beginning pregnancy months, I make sure to put a heating pad on my back (lower and upper) at night. I don't remember that from 10 years ago!

Painful varicose veins needing compression hose, tired, grumpy, short of breath, basically feeling 9 months pregnant way too early! I've found I have needed more naps and just resting time. I do ask my older children to carry the laundry baskets and other tasks that I find difficult, like bending over to pick things up!
I think us grand multips need to respect the uh...maturity of our bodies.

It seemed to me that it's as if the body says, "OK, I know the drill" and starts stretching and going into full fledged pregnancy mode earlier and earlier! So we just have to work with it!

I was more tired. I don'tknow if this was due to age or the number of children but in any case, I needed more rest. Labor was about the same.

Thanks for the replies ladies, they were much appreciated
Thanks be to God my back seems to be much better. I will obviously have to be careful from now on. When my back was hurting so was my tummy. A friend suggested my tummy muscles are probably (almost definately )weak too, so I think I might do some of the pregnancy safe tummy exercises I was given by a physio once.
Thanks for the Belly and back support recommendation Suzanne! I'll have to be getting one asap.

Thanks for this too, I was worried if it was okay to use a hot pack this early in pregnancy. It provided such relief

The children are all so excited about the new baby. One of them said to me, mum, look at your tummy, it's getting bigger already

It is not my body that is different, actually I'm feeling great so far, it is more um temper I'm less tolerant of irritations of others foibles. Then again dh says I'm always like that when pregnant. And I've been feeling that I have been more blunt and less tolerant in the last year before pregnancy. "I'm 38 I haven't time to waste" kwim?

I just had #11 a little over 2 weeks ago, and I'm 35. I was tired, but I don't really know if I was any more tired than usual. My aches and pains actually seemed fewer, but, like Erin, my biggest struggle was keeping my emotions and temper in check. I didn't realize just how bad off I was until after Celia was born - honestly, I feel so refreshed - like a new woman. It's weird. I'm certainly still very tired. She nursing all night long, plus I have teens that are up later into the night also, and I have a lot of driving on my plate this year - but I'm much much more tolerant of it all now.

You just can't fake good nutrition and hydration anymore. My body falls apart as soon as I slack off. If I stay vigilant, I am doing okay for a 41 year old expecting #9 two months from today.
I agree with the emotional part. As much as I look forward to this baby and am so thankful for this gift, I do tend to have a more impatient, get it over with attitude. On the other hand, knowing this could well be the last baby, I am trying to really cherish each kick and embrace the sufferings that come with the pregnancy.

I am 35 and pregnant with #6. I am so thirsty this time! And my body does not want to wear anything other than knits (thank God for Old Navy maternity!) which is very different than before. Otherwise I feel great, hardly felt pregnant until I hit the third trimester. Now I definately feel pregnant, and tired, and my legs hurt and I love my couch.

I have been doing my best in recent times to become a calm, gentle mother but being pregnant just might put this to the test I have already been quite authoratative, but I might add, calmly so far. I think everyone knows there is a new Mama in town now though, one who expects things done, and now

Embrace the suffering...now that's something I'm really thinking about this time. One part of me is frightened of the suffering that morning sickness brings and the various other things that may come my way, and another is starting to accept the suffering in a way I have not before.
I'm also not so afraid to embrace the joy. I treasure each moment that God has planned for this little one and I to be together.

And, for post-partum, I need a Post-partum-Support-Belt. I start wearing it 1 or 2 days after baby is born, otherwise, I have a hard time standing up straight to walk and have a harder time breathing. I keep wearing it for a couple months.
It's ESPECIALLY helpful those initial few weeks...it really helps me feel like my insides are not falling out---> which helps me stand up straighter---> which helps my shoulders not ache ---> which helps my upper back pain, which helps, of course....with all the nursing time spent.
My midwife has a lot of Russian clients, and they wear these all. the. time. She says it seems like their tummy muscles bounce back quicker.
