Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just got back from a physical for my 13 yrold ds. He has had for years what seems like IBS (my mom and brother have this too). He exihibits all the typical signs.

We have changed primary care doctors and we are going through everyone having a physical to get ourselves established there.

We brought up the stomach thing. The Dr. suggested Metamucil (or it's generic) taken once daily. He said just like a tsp. He said his wife has been doing it for 10 yrs (her family has a long history of IBS) and she has been symptom free!

So...any thoughts? anyone done this too for IBS?

My youngest son has dealt with stomache issues his whole life. We started giving him a teaspoon of elderberry concentrated juice in the morning and another before bed (it tastes pretty bad so you might mix it with a little juice). He is now regular, no stomache cramps, no more TEARS.

We had tried Metamucil in the past and didn't see much improvement.

We use...Wyldewood Vineyard Elderberry Juice Concentrate.

I don's use Metamucil, but acacia fiber (found at Whole Foods). Also, avoiding dietary triggers and drinking peppermint tea helps quite a bit. Help For IBS has tons of helpful information, as well as acacia fiber and teas.

Thanks! I know I can easily get him to try the tea. He told me that the only thing that made him feel better was sucking on peppermints...I thought he was trying to get me to get him more

I have had good results with Metamucil. Also my doc recommended a daily walk for 30min.

I wouldn't use fiber supplements because they can actually make things worse. Take a look at Fiber Menace. Have you ever tried to cut out dairy and gluten? My son was born with severe constipation when he was born and had to spend his first days in the NICU because of that. After many sleepness nights and lots of pain for our little guy we had him finally tested for food allergies: dairy, wheat, eggs, and corn were the big offenders. We also did a test for gluten sensitivity. Cutting out dairy and gluten solved all the problems. A probiotic supplement, additional magnesium and vitamin B6 might also help.
