I thought I had put a book for girls in my Amazon cart that I had read about on here for girls that discussed how babies are made from a Christian perspective, but now it's not there. Finding out #6 is coming is starting the wheels turning in dd's (8) mind. I want to provide information, but not more than necessary and would love a resource (or just some input) on how you've discussed this with your children.

I like how Popcak talks about it in "Beyond the Birds and the Bees". I read the book and then I use my own determinations on age and paraphrase but I liked how it gave me a good starting point to work from.

Parents, children, and the Facts of Life, is a good one, by Fr. Sattler, I can't remember his first name, I think Henry.
Dd goes to most of my appointments with me, including ultrasounds, and she learns a lot that way. That's part of the beauty of the homeschooling life, they learn so much, just being around in day to day life, and those natural moments can flow into a beautiful way of learning about life. With each pregnancy in the last 3 years, have come evolving conversations about pregnancy, and in the peripheral how it happens.
I try to use analogies that explain the function of physical parts of a mother. For example I explained the uterus to her and a brother of mine during my last pregnancy as being like a balloon in shape, and explained what it does for the baby. It was brought about when they were at an appointment with me and I was discussing how the doctors knew which twin would be born first, and other things the doctor was discussing. I think through being around during these times and the natural conversations that come up she is learning more than I knew even when our second was born.
Children learn so well when we use a good analogy, and it also distracts to a degree from the conversation focusing too much on the nuts and bolts of human anatomy. The analogies help explain it on a level they can understand. I always make sure though to give proper reverence and awe of the wonder of how God created us, and not dumb it down or make them think that I actually have a balloon inside holding the baby or such.
Recently in a slightly deeper conversation in explaining how pregnancy happpens to dd I explained how a little part from the daddy joins with a little egg in the moomy and then travels down the falopian tube and settles into the uterus, and grows into the precious baby that is boren. You never know where such a conversation will start! This particular conversation started when explaining the Immaculate Conception, and I was explaining to her how the soul is infused at the moment of conception. Naturally I had to explain conception somehow. Here again, the teachings of the "facts of life" can naturally com about in a comfortable manner, a little removed from a sit down and explain it all conversation.
Little bits and pieces in natural moments during day to day conversations is such a wonderful way to pass on the awesome ways God created us to assist Him in bringing new life to the world.

These are out of print, but really wonderful books for children, depending on age level.
By Dr. Robert P. Odenwald, illustrated by Mary Reed Newland (black and white drawings)
How God made you
How You Were Born
The first is for younger children, with more veiled terms, like planting a seed in the mother.
The second, How You were Born, doesn't got into too much graphic detail, but it is for pre-teen, explaining differences between man and woman. It's still quite beautiful, but age appropriately more detail.
I haven't seen other books that are in print to compare.
There is a book that is in print, but you can read online, Mother's Little Helper and the companion, Listen, Son.
But even at 8, I think so many picture books about new babies are wonderful to read. I just picked up the Little Golden Book "The New Baby" illustrated by Eloise Wilkin. Just so lovely. (I can't remember the author right now.)

I just remmbered two books that are neat for this topic with younger kids.
"Angel in the Waters" by Regina Doman( a Catholic homeschool Mom, I believe) which is a simpler story that gives a bit of how the baby grows in the womb, and includes conversations between the baby and their Guardian Angel.
Then there's "Baby Margaret Mary: My Journey to Birth" which is narated by a baby, highlighting the stages of development right from conception. This one is more in depth and explains things well and age appropriately for a child your dd's age. Our dd really likes it. It has a page detailing each week of gestation, and a bible verse on each page. Very beautiful and pro-life.
I believe both books are Catholic, and are great and worth the purchase, or checking for at the library!

A secular book Happy Birth Day! by Robie Davis is quite lovely without being too graphic. There is a cord shown, and the mom is nursing (but covered).
