I really didn't know where to post this ... thought I would start here.

My nephew will be turning the big 1-3 in August and I would like to get him something *different* for his birthday. He is the oldest in his family and the only boy. He is homeschooled and his family (my dear sister) is not of the world.

Therefore with all that said, they are not into music (no ipods, etc.); they have no video games; he is personally not into any particular sports or activities - do you have any suggestions on a gift to get him?

What about board games or cards? Any fabulous games for this age range???

Any suggestions would be great. Thank you.

Was he your son I would suggest a bow but I know that would be out of my budget for a nephew. Is he into medieval or Ranger's Apprentice? You could make him a cloak if so.

My brothers like K'nex, they still built things with them at your nephew's age, and older. They made awesome things like trebuchets(sp?) catapults, little weapons for their beanie babies that had graduated into warriors, vehicles, etc.

My soon-to-be-twelve-year-old son asked for a pitch-back for his birthday. It is basically a frame with a net and when you throw a baseball at it, it bounces back to you so you can field it and throw it again. We had one when I was a kid, hours of fun.

Lego has some pretty advanced stuff. It's not just for little kids anymore. Check out the Frank Lloyd Wright architecture ones.

I second Nerf guns, hours of fun, and all of his friends probably have them, too. Yes, even the homeschooled ones.
