Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Oh yes! However, since my girls have never gone for this kind of girly thing, I've been ok with it. I told dh he does not want to know how much $$ has been spent on "rubber bands" lately! They are fun, though!

Oh, yes.

In our area, boys and girls both wear them by the dozen. My biggest concern is that our cats might decide to eat them.

My SIL sent a package a few weeks ago to my 5yo for her birthday, and since then the girls have been seeing them everywhere and trading with people. We haven't bought our own though (and I'm hoping not to!)

It must starting east and working its way west. Don't worry, it will reach you. As far as trends go, its pretty benign, but they are exactly the sort of toys that make me CRAZY. Fortunately, mine are young and sheltered enough to be somewhat oblivious (though, they each have one given to them by a friend).

well after looking at them.. I'm still clueless.. rubber bands shaped like animals and whatnot.. but not used as rubber bands.. worn as jewelry?

And are they actually rubber bands or silicone?

i have a hard enough time keeping us in good pony tail holders for all the hair around here.. the no metal covered big ones and the silicone little ones.

They are silicone, and they wear them by the dozens. The cheaper knock offs are usually too small and cut into the wrists.

Never heard of them. But that doesn't surprise me as we are out of the loop for trends most of the time.

I've heard they are banned in some schools! Kids trade them a lot I suppose. I just learned of them at my dd's 15th bday party when a friend gave her a pack. Now my little girls, ages 5 and 2 love them! A friend of mine uses them as school incentives...for every lesson completed correctly (or something like that) the girl gets to choose a silly bandz. As long as they don't end up all over the place!

My 8yo twins brought quite a few home with them after playing with their friends. I thought they were cute and fun until my older daughter (15) told me there are similar bands worn among girls her age who use them as a kind of code for advertising their moral conduct...or lack thereof. There's a kind of game that goes on among couples who wear them and break them...they're color coded...you get the idea, I'm sure. After hearing this, I won't let the little ones wear them in public. They look too much like the other ones and I wouldn't want anyone to be confused. Maybe I'm making way too much of this similarity, but I just thought I'd pass the information along.

We have only known about them for about a month- our neighbors brought the fad home from school. My kids really love the shapes and trading them.

A lot of trends have passed us by with the kids showing no interest- pokemon cards, zhu zhu pets, webkins...so I guess I can't complain too much about this one.

Yes, Veronika. Unfortunately that is what happens here. Different colors represent different ... things. My friend's 15 yo niece explained it to her.    My son who goes to high school says he knows about them too.
I know the younger kids that wear them do it just for fun and it's totally innocent.   My kids really aren't into them yet although my dd brought a couple home from VBS last summer. Things like that tend to get lost around here, and like Krystin, my kids would have to use their own money, so they haven't become that popular here.

Isn't that sad.    The fact that the older kids can act out and make something so innocent seem so shameful to others. We do have silly bands and I don't mind if my kids where them out of the house. To tell you the truth, I wasn't aware of the negative "rep" they are getting.

For those that might be interested, they have come out with a Christian brand called Believer Bands. There is a chalice, Cross, bread, etc... I plan on buying some to put in the "goody" chest for prize time. I guess I do need to be mindful of where the girls are wearing these now. So sad.

I was just reading a warning last week (on FoxNews.com I think) about wearing too many bands or having the bands too tight on the wrist. Apparantly if they are not loose then there can be a tourniquet effect where blood flow to the hand can be constricted. So make sure your little ones have them loose enough.

Fortunately I have boys, and the fad hasn't caught on with them, although some of the girls on ds#1's baseball team wear them, and they were banned in one of the local school districts.

It is sad Kat. I actually had a whole post of ranting about that, but decided to cut that part out. You summed it up nicely above.
The Believer Bans sound like a great alternative though. I think, if my daughter starts asking for these I would go that route. The bands themselves are harmless, it's just what they are now being associated with, in some areas, that I don't want my dd to be a part of. It's really a shame.

It really is creepy. I have not heard of that here, and my teen aged niece was just with us for the weekend and did not mention this... maybe it's not everywhere?

it is a fad in my area for sure!
I have not bought any. but every time my 10 yod comes homes from a friends, she has a few more. All her friends think its so "unfair" I won't purchase them, so they give her a few.
