Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have a thread going about which sunscreens are safe and effective, and now I am wondering how you ladies approach your make-up.

Over the years I have pared down to just eyeliner, eyeshadow, a little blush and lipstick... and not always everyday. I like the Burt's bees lip glosses.

I would really like to find a safe brand I can stick with. The "natural/safe" brands seem to also be the most expensive (of course ).

I figure I could get by with just one eyeliner, one eyeshadow and two lipsticks (one red, one in the pink family).

Any suggestions?

I use a lot of the Bare Escentuals products. You just have to be selective of the eye shadows and lip products, but their foundations are pretty much all very low risk. Check out the Cosmetic Database.

Thanks. That gives me a place to start. I have been looking through the data base at all the different products until I feel my eyes glazing over. At least with the sunscreen there was just a short list to pick from.

Ecco Bella, and origins are both brands I've used and liked.

Gabriel's cosmetics makes some nice lip products, all are vegan and (I'm pretty sure) organic. I bought mine at a health food store, but you can also check them out(no pun intended)at Amazon. Most mineral make-up is safe/natural. I can't really use mineral make-up because my skin tends to be dry.

Yikes! I thought I was ok with Physicians Formula Organic but evidently not.    My beloved Aveda is even worse.

Looks like I'm going to have to rethink my next purchases. Luckily I don't wear much makeup.

I am a Clinique girl. It's the only thing I've used that doesn't inflame my sensitive skin. Actually, I've never looked at whether it's tested on animals. Haven't tried the health food store brands for make-up, but various creams and washes that are natural and/or organic have caused break outs.

Peace,
Nancy
