Last week, I took a pregnancy test and "sort of" got a positive result. It was just so very, very faint that it could barely be seen, but it was there. This happened 2 days in a row. We were really thinking that I was most likely pregnant. Now it has become clear that I am not. But, could I have actually miscarried so very early? Somewhere I have read that women can miscarry without even knowing that they were ever pregnant. Has anyone had anything like this happen?
I am "old" (46) and have had 3 miscarriages, two in the last 2 1/2 years. We would so love to have another child, but if we do have another one now in heaven, I would like to know! I am praying about this, of course.

Dana, yes it's entirely possible that you could have miscarried that early.  It's much more likely for a home pregnancy test to be falsely negative.. the false positives are much rarer so two in a row, and any positive no matter how faint is generally considered positive.

I have miscarried very early - so early that if I had not been charting, I would never have known.

Thank you Jodie and Tracy. If we do have another child in heaven, I count this as a very special blessing! I do have a wonderful pastor who I can discuss this with. He has helped me so much with my other miscarriages.
Do you think that this means that my chances of conceiving and actually carrying a child to term are next to none now? When I miscarried over a year ago, my baby was 15 weeks. Actually, I delivered her and was able to have a funeral and burial. My other two babies were lost earlier.
This has all been very emotional for me. It's all about trusting in Jesus though.

No, I can't say it would be impossible or even close to it. I know many women who've had multiple miscarriages and then carried to term. Yes your chances are lower than when you were younger.. that happens to us all.
Rather, I would try and think of it as proving you're able to concieve and perhaps look into things that would help you be the healthiest you could be.. maybe charting and seeing if hormones are all still working well. You might check the book "Fertility, Cycles and Nutrition" by Marilyn Shannon for help with what you might be able to do naturally.
Losing a baby can be so very hard. I lost one last summer at 12 weeks (baby was about 10 weeks for size).

I went through the same thing last month. Three faint positives, then several days later, bleeding. I had barely gotten used to the idea of being pregnant and it was over.
The doctor told me that the faint lines meant that my HCG levels were already going down and the baby had already died. He said the baby probably didn't even implant or at least not properly. He did say that although there are factors that we can't control as older moms, such as older eggs and chromosomal abnormalities, that we can try to control the hormonal aspect in case that is the culprit. You might want to talk to your OB about that.
I am so sorry for your loss! I know it feels not quite real, but it is still a true loss and one that takes time to grieve.
