In the course of the last three weeks, my DH lost his job  , found another job  , but then told me it was 80 percent travel 
The travel can be minimised if we move. That's good news of course. I mean I love where we live, but I love my DH more  and the kids and I want him around as much as possible!
We are so spoiled where we live. There are tons of wonderful Catholic home school families and groups and many vibrant, supportive parishes. It's daunting to think about moving somewhere I might not have that same community.
We would be moving to Florida. Luckily, we can move almost anywhere in Florida, somewhere centrally located would be best, but not totally necessary.
Does anyone know of an area with a Catholic homeschool community? A healthy parish? You can PM me or post here.
I am also looking for advice about moving with kids. My kiddos are not super excited about moving (even to Florida!). They have lots of close friends here and I have one DS(11) in particular who might take this very hard. My own gut clenches everytime I think about packing up the house and dealing with the showings and stress of selling.

Caveat: I've never been to Florida! But when you mention "Florida" and "Catholic" together, my first thought was Ave Maria, FL, the community around Ave Maria University. I think it's near Naples???? Sure to be homeschoolers there among teaching staff or graduated students' families....

Books to help kids cope:
The Berenstain Bears Moving Day
Alexander, Who's Not (Do You Hear Me? I Mean It!) Going to Move
It's not easy to move with kids...my #1 tip is to set their beds up first when you unpack. Then unpack a box of favorite toys for each child. After that you can unpack the other important stuff. Somehow kids relax a bit once they realize their stuff really did make it to the new home.

The Keys are great, but not much homeschooling-wise going on here.
We really, really liked the Gainesville/Alachua county area when we lived there. Lots of Catholic homeschoolers, great churches, nice-sized city but plenty of nature (rivers, springs, parks, and farms) all around. And the BEST library system I've ever run across.
Gainesville itself is a great, growing and vibrant city. And the outlying towns of Alachua and high Springs are really fantastic small communities.
We really did enjoy our time there.

Figure out approx. where you're going to move and then start hunting up all the good things about the area. It helps SOOOO much to leave a loved area if there's something to look forward to. It doesn't have to overshadow the saddness at leaving.. matter of fact I'd be telling you and your kids that IT'S OK TO BE SAD. But by knowing something about the area you're going to, by knowing that if your sons are involved in scouts that there's a pack there, or if they like a particular sport that they can still play it there, if you use a public pool often, then knowing if there's one there will help. They're not going to be cut off from everything they do and they'll know that. And they'll have some ideas of what to expect in the new area.. the unknown is much scarier.
And I repeated over and over when packing things up for the littles benefit. That we're putting our things in boxes so that we can take them with us. If you have a service moving you.. be sure and tell them that those boxes will come to your new place. Kids can feel like all those things being packed up are "lost" so any way to help them understand.. "remember when we packed for that special trip to Grandma's and all the things we packed went with us.. well we want EVERYTHING to go with us, so everything is getting packed".

I'm in FL (central east coast). This area has a very active homeschool community- though not necessarily a large Catholic homeschool community. It's a small/medium sized community and there is a small Catholic Homeschooling group close to us- though I'm not a member... meeting times didn't gel with our schedule but I may have to revisit that soon. I do have a couple of friends who are members and enjoy it. One friend moved last year from Jacksonville, FL where there was a larger Catholic HS group. They were very involved in their parish and while she's gotten involved here, I get the feeling she really misses Jacksonville- it's a much larger community.
We have 9+ parishes in our county (it's a long county) so there are many areas to choose from.
My in-laws live on the west coast but my MIL is a superintendent in the diocese, so she wouldn't necessarily know about the homeschooling community out there- they do love their parish though

I really appreciate the advice and the ideas on where to start looking.
We are heading on a fact finding trip this week.

If you have time and are in the Orlando area National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe would be a neat visit- we went with a few friends last year during Lent for Stations of the Cross and picnicked in their Rosary Garden. It was lovely.

I've heard the diocese of St. Augustine has is a good place to be as a homeschooler. Others have already mentioned Gainesville and Jacksonville, which belong to this diocese. I lived in Gainesville a loooooonnnnng time ago and loved living there.

Amen to that.
Key West has a terrific church and community, I don't like Key Largo or Tavernier's churches as much (sorry Theresa! LOL!) but you can't live in Florida and be any more isolated than Key West, can you?

I'm a little late responding, but we're in north Florida where there is a great Catholic home school community. Our co-op has about 40 families. Lots of the families are large and folks are serious, faithful Catholics. Such a blessing! There are 3 parishes and mostly wonderful, orthodox priests. (Especially a group of young, newly ordained ones.)

We are in N. central fl. There is a large Catholic group in the Orlando area. Just to far for us. Our parish has seven homeschooling families. We are always looking for more Our area has a homeschooling group open to all faiths that has 160+ families. We really like it here. PM me if you want more info. Praying your move will go smoothly.

Thanks for all the replies!
We'll know more about the move in April. For now I am just continuing to research. I appreciate the tips about handling moves with kids too.
Right now, DH is leaning towards the Tampa Bay area. I guess it is near a large airport and convienient to the areas he'd be driving to (Miami/Orlando and Tampa he figures mostly)
I will PM y'all for more info. and please chime in if more comes to mind!
