Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 4yod wants a feather duster for Christmas. I was thinking of getting her a broom/mop as well. I'd really like to get it locally and relatively inexpensively. This rules out Montessori sites. Any ideas?

look for wood handles that you can cut down to proper length on "real" tools? also lots of places.. hardware stores maybe?.. should have the half size brooms for use with the long handle dustpans that are a perfect preschool size broom.

After she gets it, will she come to my house and clean? I hate dusting.

Hey, I want dusting service, too! I'll hold her up so she can get my ceiling fans...

My favorite broom and dustpan set is thisquickie fliplock dustpan and broom. My husband first bought one for me because I kept throwing away dustpans. But we've had one for the past five years, and it works perfectly for little ones sweeping independently. I had the one in the link which, after much abuse, was retired to outside use sweeping leaves, and now I have a pretty red and black set. Both were bought at Home Depot. We even bought one for my elderly ILs, and they use it as well.

One benefit, imo, is that it is a real broom intended for real work instead of a toy that might not actually sweep and clean as well. It just happens to be a good height and weight for a child to use as a regular broom.

They are made in New Jersey, and on my first set, when the little rubber thing from the edge of the pan came off because of the abuse of little boys, I was able to call them and they actually sent me the replacement part for free even though I originally asked if I could buy the part.

We used to have a similar flip dustpan and broom set. It did not make it through one of our moves and I keep meaning to replace it because it was fantastic for my kids helping out with the sweeping. Ours came from Target and was probably made in China but I tell you that just to point out that they should be easy to come by.
