Is it only me - or is it impossible to find nice shoes for girls - really ugly or inappropriate one seem to abound. I cannot afford really expensive ones - but all the department stores, target etc are so horrible. My poor dd (13) really needs shoes - she is a size 6 and narrow and would love something like ballet flats - but we have not found anything. Lands end and LLBean are too wide for her

Marilyn, I have the same problem finding nice shoes for my dd. She also likes the ballet-style flats, but shoes for girls are just so clunky and ugly. Looking for ideas...

We were just at Payless Shoe Source two days ago, getting boots for L. There were multiple styles of adorable flats. More than I've seen in years. I was tempted -
Here is a link to the flats section. They are in the women's not girls and start at size 5. I liked the
-American Eagle Cherish Mary Jane Flats
-American Eagle Eve Ruffle Ballet (which unfortunately looks like it is only in wide sizes).
There are other cute flats as well. All very affordable. Hope that helps.

the eve ruffle ballet in regular width is on the third page
I may need to plan a trip to payless shoes at thanksgiving (the next time I'll be near one) My current dress flats are giving up.. I hadn't looked real hard yet but some of those look real cute.. hope the local stores will have them to try on.

And I just went to check Kohl's (I love Kohls ) though their shoe section is often hit or miss. This year it does look like they have some cute flats as well in the juniors section. They have one like the one I liked at Payless, with the ruffled accent. If you can get shoes on sale there they are often reasonablely priced. (and I got the charge card just so I can do the additonal 15-30% off deals).
Junior flats

nordstrom's might work especially well for the narrow widths if they have any nice shoes.. I remember now a friend who's daughter had really narrow feet always shopped there.

Thank you Mary - Abby said 'Mrs. M to the rescue again!!!" Abby looked at them and liked the Cherish ones best. We have a Payless 5 minutes away - though I have not been in for years ( I hope it is still there) - I am sure my dd will make sure we go soon

Thanks too for the Kohls suggestion - we have done well there before - especially the boys. Kohls too is only a 15 minute drive - I sense some shopping coming up..sigh..I am so not a shopping person...

I have heard (but have not done this yet) that zappos.com is a great source for shoes. Shipping is free and return shipping is free AND UPS comes to you. So you never ever have to leave the house.
Could be worth a try?? I need to try that too!

My problem with them kacky is everytime I go there to look for a type of shoes, they're so rediculously expensive.. especially when all you need for wearing once a week to church for a few hours is a payless shoe.

I just bought ballet flats for my girls at Payless too! My oldest wears an adult size 7 at age 9 so shoes are gone through ridiculously quickly. The BOGO sale was going on too so I ended up getting 6 pairs of shoes for $55!
Love Payless for the shoes that get quickly outgrown!

I wanted to get those at Payless here in Canada- but they were $39.99 plus tax- OUCH!! Too much for a pair of rapidly growing feet!
