I am in need of a new high chair. Not for a while, but eventually. Does anyone have one they love? I really want a wooden one.

Ok I just said that I would like a wooden high chair, but I was wondering how long they last. I don't want to have to buy another one ever if possible. So should I go with a Peg Perego instead because I know they last forever? I really like the look of wooden ones but I want it to last a really long time and not take up my whole kitchen. Our last one, which was a graco plastic high chair I think, I got at a garage sale and it died pretty quickly 
Hmmmm decisions, decisions....

If money was so object I would have liked to get the Stokke Tripp Trapp. However, my 10yo plastic high chair is still hanging on....

We have a Svan chair. We bought it about five years ago thinking it would be great for our special-needs son for years and years. It actually didn't work out too well for that specific purpose but I can't say that I'm sad to have had a really nice wooden high chair all this time. I researched Stokke and Svan and I can't remember now why we went with the Svan. It still looks fantastic. We've used it with each kid now for about a year with the tray and infant guard and then just as a higher chair at the table until the next baby needs it.

Is the infant guard the cushion or is it something different on the Svan?

The cushion is separate and unnecessary and I would imagine would get really gross really fast. The infant guard is like a U-shaped restraint with a crotch bar and then the tray hooks on top. There is also a 3-point harness.

We've got the tripp-trapp. In fact, we've got three. My 7yo, 5yo and 1yo all have one -- the 9yo would still be using one if we hadn't decided that enough was enough and she could sit in a normal chair!
The oldest chair is nearly 9 years old, and more or less as good as new. You can get an infant set with higher back and bar and strap between legs, which you then remove as they get bigger. There's no tray, they sit right up at the table with you. Very comfortable and very adjustable and really makes for good integration in family meals.

My Peg Perego lasted through my 4th. I loved it. I still have it actually.

we have used the same one through all of our kids. We got it from an unfinished furniture store and John finished it. You can see it next time you are over. I am sure you'll remember it, I love it and can't part with it.

We used a wooden high chair for years until the strap/buckle broke. I couldn't get a reply from the manufacturer about replacing it so we just tied babies in with a kitchen towel the old fashioned way. I did like the wooden chair, although it wasn't the most comfortable position for 6month olds just starting solids. That's where I like the cushiony chairs that have reclining positions. We went back to a big plastic one for our fourth baby and transfer to a Stokke around 18 months.
