Beside endless episodes of Gilligan's Island or I Love Lucy, what do you provide your sickies to play with or do when they are on the couch or in bed, too sick to get up and play? Now that flu season is here, I'm gathering my arsenal of foods to eat when sick, I need a list of things to do besides watch movies.
My kids almost enjoy being sick so they can watch movies.
Best toys when sick? Projects? Crafts?
Thanks!

Ummmm...movies....that is about it.
We rarely watch them normally. When sick and when in the car driving on a long trip are about the only times we really use the video players.
It is all I can think of as they usually don't feel like doing anything when sick, like crafts and all.
Of course, our "supply' is limited as when we do want to watch we usually get them out of the library. I might need to stock up myself. Just one or two new ones for an emergency

Movies. Sometimes I do read-alouds.

My 3yos were sick this week, and they had so much fun laying on the sofa and looking through the oversized Lucy Micklethwaite books (for example, A Child's Book of Art: First Words and Discover Great Paintings). Something about the size of those books makes them particularly fun to just page through leisurely. We had them out from the library. They also like to do some simple coloring and make up stories with their stuffed animals.

When I was little and sick besides watching movies my mom would read stories after stories; we also enjoyed coloring and those puzzles in the books...she always had a special stash of new crayons and coloring books for when we were sick so that it was something "different".

We allow them to rest on Mom and Dad's "big bed" with a pile of favorite picture books, a gingerale (in a sippy cup!), kleenex, and, if needed, the "barf bowl". I do want to be able to sleep in my bed at night!

Books on tape or CD work really well here. They can lie in a dark quiet room and listen. Frequently they will fall asleep listening to a book.
The Cricket in Times Square is the all-time favorite followed by any of the Series of Unfortunate Events on CD. Tim Curry does excellent narration on the Series of Unfortunate Events books.
My crafty girls have enjoyed a lap loom, especially if I have some pretty yarn stashed away I can bring out.
