Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Opinions and advice welcomed please.

I have 2 nieces who are homeschooled and looove to do arties-crafty types of things, love to come up with and create their own things, and set tea with their mom. With that said, when I was looking in the CHC catalog, I noticed the following two books:

* Tea & Cake with the Saints: A Catholic Young Lady's Introduction to Hospitality

* Sewing with Saint Anne: A Sewing Book for Catholic Girls

Does anyone have these books already? What are your thoughts on them? I was thinking of purchasing for them for Christmas. Do you think it would be a good idea or are the books too textbook like?

TIA ladies!

We love "Tea & Cake". How old are the girls? My dd is 10 and it is written at her level. There are a few crafts but I wouldn't call it a craft book. It is wonderful to use for discussions on homemaking and hospitality.

The Sewing book is on my list. I've seen it and it looks wonderful.

The girls are 8 and 10. I really think they would enjoy it - I just didn't want to get them a book that was too *text-booky* for a Christmas gift, KWIM?

Thanks for the feedback ... any more?!?!?

Not textbook like at all!!! I have both books and they are lovely! I heartily recommend both!!!! Alice writes from a lovely perspective and with beautiful ideas that are both simple and inspiring to do in the home with daughters. Alice Cantrell, the author of both books, writes and never fails to inspire me at a number of things.

A few past threads with a little more info...

Tea and Cake with the Saints

sewing for children that want to sew

Using Tea and Cake with the saints as part of a hospitality program - Homemaking Notebook for Girls

Hope this helps! Now run, do not walk, over to CHC and grab those books for your lucky nieces!

These are delightful. I can't wait until my dd is old enough for them
