Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm neck deep in figuring out starting up a Frontier Girls troop and my head is spinning. It really doesn't seem too complicated and I think it would be a great fit for our area.

They've been mentioned here before

But that's the only post I could find.

If anyone has helped set up a scouting type of troop before I'd love to hear about it. I finally gave up and called the founder of this program, Kerry Cordy, wonderful lady, to work through some of the questions I had of stuff that I was making more difficult than it really was.

And I even have one local lady interested in the program as well. So confidence building. People here are pretty busy.. you know.. small town and the same people are the ones that volunteer is anything going. So lots of full schedules.

Matter of fact the only reason I'm feeling anywhere close to capable of figuring this out is because we decided not to do the parks and rec soccer this fall.

The nice thing about this group is that there's very little overhead. One bake sale would probably cover the startup costs. And there's no national fundraising, what you fundraise stays local except for fairly minimal yearly fees.

I think this will be a good fit for us, I have 3 girls in the age range (K-12th grade) and in another 3 years will add a 4th.

The troop meetings are all levels together.. they may break up to work on seperate things during the meeting but mostly they're together.. exactly because those of us with girls in multiple levels (4 levels) would end up juggling 2 or more meetings.. I'll end up with one girl in each level at one point for instance. This will be soooo nice in that respect.

But if a troop doesn't work out we can join up as just our family.. and if others do as well we could get together to do things.. OR if some of the families that live out of town dont' want to try and meet as a troop, they could join up as a family and be invited to troop events. I like that. I know some families out of town that would like it too.. especially in the winter when travel can get chancy.

Here I am just rambling. I like the group and I hope I can manage to get it all organized and started..

The boys are involved in Boy Scouts but I really needed to find something other than Girl Scouts.. I just no longer care for their underlying philosophies, though I know the individual troops take on their own "flavor", they still support the National level.

Now I"m thinking focusing on Scouting in the fall and winter and then backing off enough for our spring and summer sports is the way to go
