Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

One of my children stays up much too late at night, often working on the computer (writing a book). I know with absolute certainty nothing fishy is going on with computer time. BUT, I also believe that the effect of this screen time on the brain makes it even more difficult to fall asleep (compared with, say, reading late into the night). DH and I both need to go to sleep early; we really have no way to be certain the computer is not in use after we go to bed (10ish). Do you all know of any way to make the computer not come on after a certain time?

Peace,
Nancy

there are some free utilities that help with that I think - look on cnet (i'll try to find link later)

Also - I'm almost postive that BSAFE software (blocking and tracking) has that capability.

(The power cord isn't a bad idea!)

Do you have Windows Vista? My dh set up times that the children are allowed on. They have their own user account. Somewhere there is a place in the settings that allows you to block off certain times. This was very helpful when we had a night owl teen as well.

I will try to look at the settings later and get back to you if you do have Vista. I don't know you can do it with earlier versions.

We put our router on a plug in timer to self regulate the internet. I mean, sure we could go down to the basement and turn it on, but at midnight, we're tired.

I guess if she's writing a book, it isn't the internet that is the issue, but depending on how easily accessible the outlet is or if you think it would help her (and she wouldn't try to unplug and replug, etc...), a regular outlet timer might do the trick.

Molly's suggestion with Windows Vista is the best. But if you have an earlier version just set an admin password for the whole computer - so when the computer is turned on a password is needed to go in.
