baby has called her "Daddy" at first?

I have read that babies usually babble "dada" first because the "d" sound is easier than the "m," and the way she talks/babbles does seem to fit with that interpretation.

And I've also heard that babies may say "Daddy" first because their mothers spend so much time identifying Daddy to them! That would fit here.

It's pretty clear, though, that she also calls me Daddy! I think she might also call other people that, or anything with a face that doesn't remind her of her first word, "kitty."

But it still feels strange to be called Daddy!

(She's very clearly saying Da-dee lately, as opposed to just babbling something that sounds like dada. Other words she clearly has are hi, ba[ll], and [ba]nana.)

My girls have all said, "da-da" (or sometimes "pa-pa") before "ma-ma"

I had one child who could say 'momma' but he called everyone else 'daddy'. Except my SIL, who lived with us, she was referred to as 'aunt daddy.'

Useless tidbit alert!!

In Georgian, the word for mother is "deda" and father is "mama". My Dad the linguist wondered whether these are the two most common first babbles, and that Georgian, a very ancient language, just has them the other way around!

So maybe your baby is just really a genius and saying "Mom" in Georgian!

We've realized that her word for ball is actually "dah," not "bah," so that supports the possibility that "d" is just an easy consonant for her to say.
