Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm cloth diapering a two-month old with prefolds and prowraps right now and I'm going through about 18 diapers and four covers and washing them every day (I have three in diapers so I'm washing bigger ones in there, too). I don't know what you'd do with inserts in diapers like these--those are usually used for pocket diapers.

Ok, I buy 2 dozen prefolds and 4 covers. This is enough for us, I will usually wash every second or third day. Every second day with a newborn, as they get older and poop less frequently I tend to get by with every third day. I usually just use one cover a day unless it gets poop on it. If you have good sized babies, you can probably skip the tiniest sizes too. I bought newborn sized covers and none needed them really, and the last one couldn't even squeeze into them, , but I have big ole babies. My last was 10'15.

You won't need inserts for a newborn really. Once they get to be a few months old, you might want some to use at night, and now with my 10 month old I usually do use an insert all the time. It's not always necessary, she doesn't leak or anything, I just feel like maybe it helps her feel drier? Sometimes she is not too wet at changes and other times she wets a lot more.

I also bought some cloth wipes when I bought my diapers and they are great too. Wipes and inserts would both be easy to make too, but I was new to dipes at the time and didn't realize that. My inserts are just made of several layers of flannel. I know a woman that scouted thrift stores for flannel clothing and such to use to make inserts.

Susan's right, I mean to say "doublers", not inserts...I get these confused all the time. :)Doublers are basically just extra material of some kind used to make the prefold dipe more absorbant. Inserts are used inside pocket diapers.
