Hi,
A dear friend is expecting baby #8 in the spring. I am trying to think of the best shower gift for her. Naturally, I am quizzing her husband, but I also wonder whether the ladies with larger families can think of anything that has been a particular life-saver for them.
Her children are age 14 and below, and this is only her second girl, so girl clothes are obviously in order--but I am trying to think of something to make life easier with 3 littles at home and 5 others in school.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Freezer meals or Dinner Done certificates?
My dd really wants to do a pink shower tea for me - and rather than gifts I would rather have meals for the freezer.

My dear friend had a surprise shower for me when I was pg with number 7. One of the moms that was there gave me money in a card with a suggestion to buy a new nursing bra, something I rarely have treated myself too. Besides receiving some very nice baby clothes I received several gift certificates that I used to buy myself some new postpartum clothes.
The moms also gave me 3 weeks of regular meals, by far the best gift of all!

By your 8th kid, you really need some new stuff. New blankets, burp rags, diapers, bath towels, nursing pads, clothes. Meals are good too.

BABY CARRIER.. hands down the best thing I've ever gotten is my maya wrap ring sling.. but whatever carrier would work best a ring sling or wrap.. or ergo/mei tai style.. or a stroller.. love my graco duoglide.. I can get 3 littles in it (smallest in the carseat in front and two sitting together on the backseat with the back laid flat)
But the sling is my hands down favorite.. you should see me taking all the older kids around to soccer or swimming.. baby in the sling.. toddler being chased or up on my shoulders.. preschoolers running with me or holding onto my waistband towed along behind

paper goods! plates, plastic ware, plastic cups, paper towels... so there's no clean up for most meals!
a light weight, but cozy robe and foot cozies (I personally prefer these to slippers)
the tea elizabeth recommended really is great. I'm enjoying it!
card games to play with the kids while nursing.
the usual baby supplies

You could chip in and get a gift certificate for a cleaning service. Meals are great too. A basket with little things for Mom - lanolin, tea, etc. The oldest daughter might be more help than the husband in knowing what they need!
After 7 children, I imagine there might be a few things that need to be replaced.

I had a friend throw a shower for another friend once with the theme of "diapers and dinners." In lieu of traditional gifts, guests were encouraged to bring homemade frozen dinners to stock the freezer and diapers of all sizes.
I'm pregnant with #4 though, and I see that after even 3 babies there are some things that could use replacement or things that I didn't know I needed when I had #1 and took my registry advice from the big stores!
