After about 6/7 months of this we truly have become a different family. It seems like with the discipline in place I CAN be more gentle with the kids. We are now in our proper spheres, so to speak, and I nurture, love, and connect with them more than ever. I just breathe them in. |

...in the Virtuous Woman thread. I was in a place of joy and peace when I wrote it a few days ago. Things had been going smoothly for a good while. The past two days, however, I have been really struggling. And this stinking thing I posted is haunting my thoughts. I feel like a fraud (I was trying to be encouraging!) and this kind of post would have contributed to my insecurity a short year ago and I'd hate to think I contributed to someone else's.
In short, I'm retracting the statement, LOL.

Oh, Dawn, that is awfully sweet and honest!
Just cause you are having a setback right now doesn't mean you aren't making real progress. You probably have more tools now than you did before.
I've noticed that once I've posted about something good happening, it's almost guaranteed that it will tumble off the cliff right afterwards. I was just blogging about how I had gained a better attitude about food for example, and then I had a run of absolutely HORRIBLE food days. Back to Square One!
I think it's important to share successes as well as trials though.

Oh, Dawn... I bet you're doing better than you think! Big picture my friend!!!
Overall, I'm working on gentleness, but I fall all.the.time! For example, my lunch consisted of just surviving the hour...it seemed everyone jumped in there all at once with a different need and/or crisis. The baby wanted to be fed and was demanding that I move faster. The whole time I was struggling within myself not to roll my eyes, not to sigh in an exasperated way when the toddler accidentally launched the spoon filled with applesauce across the room. I struggled. That is where virtue is built for you and I though, Dawn. In the struggles.
You were being consoled by God in a place of peace and joy last week and you expressed it beautifully. You *were* encouraging. Don't apologize for that. Don't apologize for your struggles either. We're all real moms with real challenges and real applesauce flingin' babies! Gentility is built in the little moments of each day, and if we stumble or fall, thanks be to God for the Sacrament of Confession and the awesome gift of being able to start all over again the next moment.
You are not a fraud, Dawn. You're down in the trenches! Think of these struggles as God's exercise plan - you asked Him to help you in cultivating this virtue and He said, "Ok, Dawn. I will help you. Here are a few exercises for you to try and I love you." Struggles=Exercise in Virtue. I'm sending you hugs and prayers for your day and the days to follow. Send me some back as I peel the applesauce off the ceiling!

Dawn, this happens to me constantly. I call it the paradox of posting or blogging. I post on how well something is going, only to inevitably find that everything crashes...

In the trenches with you, Sister!!! I try to remain small, like St. Therese, but I end up acting like the "smallest" one in the bunch sometimes, with temper tantrums to match! Good Grief. I read you post, and I thought, "ahhh, I am glad she is having better days, God love her, she had a rough way to go just a year ago...." The nice thing, I bet, now...is you have bad days, or a bad week....but not a bad year....or two....
Stick your head out of the trenches, keep talking......you are a good mama!!! ( and I agree, it was an encouraging post, one spoken from experience, that continues to be ongoing!! )

This happens every time I gush to my not-terribly-homeschool-supportive mother about how well things are going...
Hang in there...no reason to apologize! I hope to arrive at your spot for a period of 24 to 48 hours someday, too!

I can relate, as well, but I actually found your words inspiring, so thank you! I am also down in the trenches with you. Hang in there! Here's to God keeping us humble! ;)

OK - so I'm coming back to this thread because I was soo PMSing that week but it was my first real cycle since the baby was born and well, I'm just out of practice with dealling with all that!! And then I got emotional and made this post about retracting what I'd said. I'm such a goober!! Anyway... I put together a guide to PMS, LOL! (still goober, I know). Just thought I'd share. :)
