Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Besides adding rosewood oil to the detergent, what else can I do to keep our Fuzzy Bunz from smelling after about an hour or so on the baby? Everyone here keeps complaining about the smell, but the diaper is not really that wet. Any ideas?????

Ruth, it's the inserts. Are you on a well, too? I have the hardest time getting the smell out. I am using Charlie's Soap now and vinegar and several rinses. It does work but it is too much work. I have the same problem with the Indian pre-folds I bought. I don't use many pocket diapers anymore. I use pre-folds and AIOs from Blue Penguin.

BTW, I haven't posted but you are in my prayers!

Ruth - have you tried Sports Wash (or SensiClean) you can find this in the sporting goods section of WalMart in a bright orange bottle. Be sure to double rinse so it doesn't bother baby's skin.

Also, the Rosewood oil may be the problem, as it is an oil, it will 'bind' to the diapers causing build up. Do you have any repelling issues? How about diaper rash ointment? Have you been using any of that?

Ruth, we have very hard water, and synthetic fabrics seem like they are much harder to rinse completely. I found that the fleece soaker inserts I was using with my Mother-Ease cotton diapers would retain the urine smell. They smelled okay fresh out of the wash, but the second a bit of wetness hit them, they would smell really bad. I didn't have the smell problem with the cotton soakers.

I have done cloth diapers for 7 years with three different wells (one with horribly hard water) and several kinds of detergent and the only time I have had stink issues is when the hot water heater got to turned to 'energy saver' mode.

For the past 4 or 5 years we have been using pocket diapers and Charlie's Soap, still on a well, and as long as our hot water is really HOT (140-150 degrees) the diapers come out fine. Just be careful about scalds if you don't have anti-scald faucets.

Thanks for your prayers, Molly. No we don't have a well. I need to switch detergent, I guess. I have using vinegar when I remember to put it in.

No, I have not heard of Sports Wash. I'll stop the Rosewood oil, but it smells so good. I don't use ointments on her either. I'll try that detergent as well.

That is EXCACTLY what is happening with them. I hate to hear my husband and the kids complain.

Our water is at 125 degrees right now. I'm afraid to turn it up higher, though. I'm going to try both of the detergents that you all recommended.
