Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My oldest son (12yrsold) is very cautious about using bad words, even words like hell and damnation that we sometimes find in our bible studies. If he is reading our lesson and he comes to a word like this, he turns bright red and mumbles the word. Or he will change the text...if it says, "A life of sin will lead to hell and damnation." He would say, "A life of sin will lead to you-know-where and you-know-what." LOL I've tried telling him that this is not cussing but he can't get past it.

So all week, he has been asking me and my husband about this new movie that is coming out. He kept saying, "Dad, do you think the youknowwhereBoy is going to be inappropriate for me to see?" My husband kept saying he'd never heard of it. I'd never heard of it. Finally, after a week of this, my son says, "MOM, you where sitting right there when the commercial for youknowwhereBoy was on last night." I still had no idea what he was talking about. He said, "You know the one with the big red guy with a gun." My husband finally got it. He asked him, "Do you mean Hellboy?" DS12 turned bright red and murmured, "Yeah, that one." LOL

I told him that unfortunately I didn't think that one would be appropriate. Is there anywhere that gives movie reviews for parents, so that I can have more info than just what I see on the commercials?

Thanks.

Hi, Vanna. Hereand hereare places to try for parent reviews of movies. I noticed a You-know-where-boy    review when I linked the second one. One of these sites ranks for violence, profanity, and s*x. I refer to them often as you can't always tell even when renting! Good luck!

I use screenit.com. It gives specific information rather than a review, so you can decide for yourself. There is a fee these days, I don't remember what it is, but I thought it was worth it when my son was a younger teen asking to see everything. He is 17 now, so I don't have much say. He is actually my reviewer these days because he knows what I will allow the other kids to see. The younger kids don't go to the theatres and we rarely watch newer movies at home, so I don't pay much attention anymore. I like it that way!

Good luck.

I love screenit.com (scroll down to bottom and say "no thanks" - you don't have to join to use it)

I also always use Plugged In Online from Focus on the Family.

Also, the Catholic Communications Campaign has a movie review service. You can access their reviews through the USCCB site. They have reviews of many older films because they started rating movies long before other independent reviewers. They also have a list of the Vatican's top 45 movies.

Like all reviewers, they will not always agree with you on what is appropriate for your kids. You still have to make the final decision yourself.

I like www.commonsensemedia.org too. I probably would've answered something like, "If the title is unmentionable, the movie is probably unacceptable."
