Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Soccer is almost over, then my 12 year old starts basketball. Soccer was not too bad for my little kids because it was at parks and they just played. Basketball will be in gyms and they won't have the freedom to run during games. I hate to miss his games.

Anyone else do indoor sports that you bring your little kids to? How do you do it?

I'm not a good sports mom. I know less about basketball than I did about soccer. I'm so busy with my kids or chitchatting with other moms, I usually miss when my kids make a play.

Anyone else have sports mom guilt?

Bridget,

We use to pack a bag with all sorts of stuff and only could have it while my brothers were playing b-ball. You should have your ds teach you all about b-ball with written tests and such. I had my nephews do it for my sil...she didn't enjoy learning about it and having to do tests but the dc loved testing Mom!!

My Mom always had books, crayons, paper, paperdolls, Barbies, little trinkets (think Dollar Store) in the "sports" bag for us. I liked it best when there were treats in the bag too!

Use the bleachers like a table (sit them on the low steps with the "seats" as writing surfaces) and bring things that they don't usually get like stickers or those vinyl sticker set thingies whose name evades me now. That's good for about fifteen minutes .

Watch basketball on tv with the chld who plays and try to learn the game and try to teach the littles. Usually, younger children in a family are better athletes earlier because they've learned so much vicariously. The good thing about basketball over soccer is that the action is much quicker. They will see more scoring and will be able to follow more easily without getting bored. The other benefit is that the games are indoors and weather is never an issue. I really hate pulling up my shirt to nurse a baby at a November or March soccer game, but nursing during basketball season is a very pleasant experience .

Thanks for the thread. We are just finishing volleyball season - the first one with both middle school and high school schedules. With our littles coming during the beginning of basketball season I have been wondering what I will do. dh travels so I don't have the option of having one parent at home. We do all we can to get to home and away games but this year schedule conflicts have made it impossible to be everywhere.
My struggle here is letting my dd take the high school bus to and from games. I like letting her play and be part of the team but I am really not happy with the influances we are seeing. It is making life a bit stressful.
Anyhow, I am going to start picking things up and packing a bag of activities and treasures.
God Bless,
Wendi
