I have read all the posts about slings & other babywearing carriers. I have an Over the Shoulder Baby Holder that I have used w/all my other children. I just ordered a Moby based on the information I have read here. All of my babies get very chunky, very fast. They weigh around 26lbs at 6 months. Hopefully this new little guy will be the same.
My question, is the Moby good for chunky monkeys? I'm assuming yes...

Moby D with the fabric panel is what others have recommended for the heavier babies.
I have a chunky monkey and I find the Ergo best for him, but I'm not a wrap or sling person.

Yes, the Moby D is what you want. My guy is almost 6 months and at least twenty pounds. We went out last week for an outing and I alternated between the baby and the 2 yr old in the Moby D. I couldn't do that with any other carrier!

I've not used a MOBY D, but the theory make alot of sense for biggie babies! :) MB is a pretty 'substantial' baby, and I find the MOBY just fine so long as we keep it high and tight!

If you are willing to keep it high and tight, the Moby should work fine. But generally, stretchy materials in wraps are best only up to a certain weight. After the chunk-factor settles in, it tends to pull on you.
I think the Moby is hands down the most comfortable carrier for an infant. However, I got rid of mine since I'm not willing to deal with 18 feet of fabric. I'm just too impatient for that. I have a fantastic sling that is absolutely dreamy with infants. Then I switch up to a back carry with a Patapum which is basically a cheaper version of the Ergo. Then, when baby gets too tall for that... I put him in a mei tai.
I make my own mei tais and they have excellent weight distribution for heavier babes.
I've tried dozens of carriers at this point and I'm comfortable with my system now. And I'm also at the point where I'd recommend buying a mei tai for most people... it is the most versatile baby carrier with the least amount of hassle. You can't beat a good mei tai for front carrying a heavy baby. Back carry... debatable... it's either a mei tai or a soft structured carrier like the Ergo/Patapum/Beco line.

I ordered a Moby & it arrived over the weekend. We have only used it twice, (I also bought a new nursing bra & now have mastitis!), but I love it for my newborn.
Thanks for the replies.
