I know it has been discussed before.
I know that there are some issues between Girl Scouts and other organizations.
But. I would like to ask this question anyway.
Does anyone here have their daughter in Girl Scouts, and do you like it, and - as a long shot - is anyone's daughter a Juliette Scout?

My 2 oldest are Daisy Girl Scouts. I am one of their leaders. My niece that lives with me is basically a Juliette. She belongs to the Daisy troop because it is easier to earn and save money for trips, but she is the only Senior scout in the troop.
Do you have any other questions?

I just signed up Maria for Girl Scouts today (Brownies).  I love Girl Scouting. I was a Girl Scout from 4th - 12th grades and got my Gold Award. Back when we were dating and I knew something cool that I learned in GS, Bill would say, "All of our kids have to be Girl Scouts." Now we have...5 boys...who will not...be Girl Scouts. 
Anyway, I was very happy to hear GS in this service unit is good and holy and true. Back in the day Juliette Scouts were called "solos". I hadn't thought of it, but it's something to keep in mind for the future.

The waiting list here for a troop placement can be months and months (I think someone told me they waited two years?!?).
I tried for a Parish based group - the one close by was a Jr troop, and the one that was Brownies - but was really too far anyway - wanted you to be registered at the Church or School. Which wasn't a consideration, as they were quite far away.
Before we moved, our homeschool group did their own scout-type-thing, which she loved. But she has wanted to be a girl scout since....forever. I can't even tell you why, as she was never exposed to GS really (I was an AHG troop leaeder when she was little for my older dd.)
I considered forming my own troop - I have been a GS leader before...but I just don't have the umph right now to go through the training to do it again.
Then I learned that the Juliette program here is pretty strong (probably due to the long wait for troop placement.)
I think she would love it.
And I am thinking I could probably find a few other Juliettes to meet with, informally, a few once or twice a month, maybe.
I think this could work.....

My dd is a Girl Scout...soon to be Cadette, ack! She loves her homeschool troop here, as she enjoyed her "local" troop in WV and our overseas Daisy/Brownie experiences.
I know the training is inconvenient and burdensome. IMHO that is the worst part about the GS program.
Given the right troop (like-minded) or Juliette experience, I still feel that Girl Scouting can be very beneficial. Wrong troop, not so much.
I am about to encounter the wacky world of Cadette leadership...stay tuned!

My daughter is a GS and has been one for several years. She is in the last year of Juniors. This year she almost became a Juliette because her troop wasn't holding meetings. We were already doing stuff at home with her to help her earn badges so we were considering it however, after the first of the year they started meetings.
She does enjoy it and I enjoy working with her on badges. She mostly enjoys the social part of it. Our town is very small so there aren't many girls but on the plus side many of them are homeschooled.

I am a Cadette leader.
Just piping in to remind everyone that there are Catholic religious emblems for Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, and Seniors.
The two youngest can be done individually at home, and the older two should have a trained facilitator working in small groups.
When I led our Marian Medal group over the last school year, I had a few Juliettes in my group. They seemed to enjoy their experience, even in the absence of a troop.
DD has been in GS since Daisies, and I have been her leader. I have been happy with our experience, and with the organization in our area.
As for the training, I have had some 'issues' on that front, but some councils have online programs. I found that by working through some of those, I was able to show evidence of knowledge that enabled me to bypass some of the basic levels. Find out if your local council is one of those that will work with you.

My DD was a Brownie this year and enjoyed it very much. Her troop leader was a young woman (about 21) who had grown up in GS and I thought she did a great job with the girls. They met every other week for 1.5hrs. Mtg length and frequency depends on the volunteer leader-FYI.
No placement should take as long as mentioned above-something is very wrong there! I know the program is mostly volunteer run but that is unacceptable. It should only take a few weeks AT MOST to find a troop.
Anyway, since the troop leader is going away to college this fall there will be a new troop leader and I'm not sure what her plans are. She may be holding mtgs at a time that won't work for us. In that case, we'll do the Juliette route. Since I was a GS for about 10 yrs and worked for GS for 8 yrs I think I can handle it ;)
I really love the program!

My 9yo is a Junior and I am the leader of her troop. We are very organized and do lots of fun things. She learned a lot this year, since I used GS as an extension of homeschooling, with the girls along for the ride. Our favorite badge work was theater, but we also did First Aid and some World Cultures badges which were very interesting.
I would have a hard time doing Juliette with my dd - I think I would lose my motivation. We had a Juliette join our troop this year, who came in with no badges. She had only sold cookies the year before. When you know you have 10 girls coming to a meeting next week, you make sure to plan ahead and come up with something good. Dd would also think we were just homeschooling extra if I pulled out the requirement book at home. You'd have to make sure you were including the fun stuff, too, I think. Not to discourage you, but I think it might feel like busy work without the troop element.

ya know, there was a group at our old parish. all of the girl's friends signed up for daisy, then brownies.
but I just couldn't do it.
while our group at our parish did wholesome, holy things, activities etc... the parent corp. of GS supports and is supported by Plan Parenthood.
at their (the GS) National conferences they have people from PP speaking etc...
in the old 'dens' (is that what they call them in GS?) the girl are taught about their 'health' and are told that they don't need to tell their parents certain things.
I don't have the links right now, and I am going out tonight, but I will dig them up this week and post them for whoever is interested.
as good as it looks on the surface, GS just isn't for us. I felt that it went against some many things that we are striving for....some of the very things that we homeschool because of. (sorry, did last sentence make sense?)
