Just looking for pity....
I'm almost a week overdue, which I know isn't that much really, but this is the most over I've gone. My first was born a few days early and with my second my water broke on my due date, so I wasn't prepared to be even this late. I'm SO READY...and thinking it'll be any day now,,,,and then someone told me the other day she was 3 weeks late with one of hers..!
Plus, my body keeps "teasing" me...I have contractions all the time, I have for like a month now. And so I'll often have contractions just long enough and just strong enough to start hoping maybe something will happen, and then they will putter away.

Just resign yourself to the fact that this baby will NEVER be born, and the next thing you know...
Works like a charm! I know, baby #8 was more than a week late.

that's usually my lot in life as well..
It really helps me to remember that the very LAST thing I want is a baby that is born too early for that baby.. the one I had that went the longest (officially 43.5 weeks) had what was apparently an immature digestive system.. which was just some discomfort that could be countered with walking or the swing.. I can't imagine if he'd been forced to come early how miserable we would have BOTH been.
Since then I've always prepared myself to go over.. for instance in your situation imagining the baby at Memorial Day weekend events would be a bad thing for me.. way to close to the due date.. but now Fourth of July festivities would be a good thing to imagine with a new baby. You know baby will be here by then.

I have to echo Jodie. I know my dates were rock solid with Christian and he went 42 weeks and 3 days. When he was born, they all thought he looked early if anything. And his whole life, he's hit developmental milestones just a little later. Some babies need a little longer than 40 weeks, just like some children need a little longer to grow. It's hard to be patient but rare is the overcooked baby . I think it's always hard when you get to the end of a calendar month too. You've been thinking "May" for so long and you're watching May slip towards June. It won't be long before you will touch his sweet head--for now, try to enjoy those wiggles inside of you. Nothing else feels quite like that!
Hey, my longest pregnancies were usually my easiest labors:-)

I've had one go 12 days over. No thanks, don't wanna do THAT again (she was obviously overdue, had lost weight in there, etc--shoot, my belly had gone SQUARE there was so little room left at the inn, lol )
But I had the next one be two weeks "early", the third 9 days late, and the boys were yanked 6 wks early.
So, in my case at least, I just never know...lol
Rachel (who will be praying for you to have a really easy, relatively short labor)

My last one was 6 days late and I was in agony! I am so sorry that you are still waiting. But I still consider myself lucky, my oldest brother was born 21 days late! My poor mother. I will certainly pray for a quick and easy labor for you and SOON!
Blessings,
Betsie

Oh and a bit of a pet peeve.. the idea that going past your due date is "overdue".. it's not really.. the due date is supposed to have a +/- of 2 weeks so 42 weeks is as much "term" as 38 weeks is. I've read stats that place the average gestation for first time moms at 41.5 weeks and for second + at 40.5 weeks. Now obviously that doesn't mean that every pregnancy is that length or should be but to speak of going past 40 weeks as being somehow "bad" is way out of line as well.
(not saying anyone here was saying it was bad.. just airing the pet peeve that *some* people somewhere do so)

Melanie--I've been thinking about you and praying for you. It's so hard when you can't get your brain to stick on anything else but will it be today...tonight...tomorrow morning...in the next hour...etc...one thing that helps me relax into the ideas that baby is in fact coming soon if not today is to spend a lot of time in "his" spot with "his" things. I let the kids help me fold the baby clothes (even if I've already done it), sit near the baby's bed to read stories, and rock with a cup of tea in his room. It helps me to feel connected instead of anxious. Much love, dear.

mine have all been "late", between 14 days and 1 day! (this was Maria and I was SO in denial that I was in labor- I did not even really realize/accept it until I was found to be 8 cm )
I believe that a baby comes when he or she is ready. it just is harder when a date a Dr or we have calculated has passed.....
praying for you! at least it is not August!
My July 28 baby came Aug 10th!

typically the more braxton hicks contractions you have before labor the less 'work' you will do during your actual labor, so try to take some comfort in that

I went over with both of my boys. It is very very frustrating. I suggest walking as much as you can (I know it's probably uncomfortable and difficult at this point). It really helps get labor going.

Melanie,
I will pray for you and I can relate. Only 1 of my 7 were "on time." It is so hard to wait. And I did everything my midwife told me to help things along; long walks, spicy dinners and romantic evenings. It didn't help a bit to get labor going but my dh was happy! The baby will come when it comes. Easy to say but hard to deal with.

UPDATE!!!!
Teresa Grace was born May 28th at 1:35am.
She weighed 10 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 21 1/2 inches long.
Thank you all for your prayers and encouragement, it was much appreciated, even if I'm reading some after the fact,
She was, of course, worth the wait.
