We may be starting the process to adopt internationally. (Please, if any of you know us IRL, keep this information confidential.) I don't even know where to begin to select an agency. I've requested info. packets from a few already - ones mentioned on these forums. I'm wondering, though, if I should be cautious of anti-catholic sentiments held by any adoption agencies. If so, would you please alert me to which ones? (If you're not comfortable posting them a PM is fine too.) Thanks!

There are several Yahoo groups about international adoption that were invaluable to us in choosing an agency. If you search adoption agency research on the Yahoo groups main page, for example, you'll find several very active groups that are goldmines of agency reviews. And then, of course, there are country-specific e-lists that will be even more helpful to you.
Once we had narrowed it down to a dozen, I sent a short list of our highest-priority questions out. Those answers narrowed my list down to just a few, whom I interviewed by phone.
I think you'll find as you peruse those e-lists that though there are lots and lots of agencies practicing, there are only a few really trustworthy and reliable agencies for each country. And from there, your own personal preferences will dictate your choice from among them.
Anyway, I hope that helps a little. God bless you in your search!

Martha,I don't have any specifics, but once I heard on EWTN radio that Ethiopea has a very good adoption policy.Apparently, they have so many children in the orphanages that often they have to turn the older ones out on the street. So the agencies make adoption very easy, they will even fly to the U.S. to deliver the child.Sorry that I can not give any more details on this.I'm sure you could find more info on line.I'm sure you'll get many blessings from God on any adoption.

Try looking into Adoption Advocates International for an Ethiopian adoption. I have heard nothing but good things about adoptions from Ethiopia.

Thank you! I should have clarified that we are really mostly interested in adoption from China. (Yes, we know it will be a long wait.)

We used All God's Children, International in Portland, OR.
I think their Guatemala program is on hold, but they just opened an Ethiopia program.

Stay away from anyone connected with (or formerly connected with) Yunona. We got burned, and I had several online friends who were burned badly by them. They were taken down, but the various and sundry personnel that worked for them went off and started their own agencies.
Check with JCICS, click on "country information", where you can get more information on the adoption climate in that particular country, as well as member agencies that have programs in that country.
Several online groups exist for country-specific adoptions. They are an excellent source of real-life experiences from other adoptive and pre-adoptive parents.
We're beginning to look into international adoption again. Right now we're leaning toward Poland, though Russia and Kaz are still at the top of the list. We don't qualify for India, but that would be wonderful, too.
Best wishes!

Oh, and my husband Brian's cousin Lucy adopted from one of the African nations - 4 children from the same birth family. She's now a mom of 13!
Blessings,

Hi Martha,
Both of our daughters are adopted from China. In fact, we just got home a week ago today with Rachel! Both have special needs...cleft lip/palate. So our wait was very short. We've been told the current wait for a non-special need child is 5 years! You can check out our journey at www.journeytome.com click on adoption journals and the username/password is RachelR.
We used Small World Adoptions for both and LOVED them!
