Has anyone done it?
I'm really drawn to it since, to my understanding, it is mostly just deep relaxation techniques. During labor, I can feel my whole body just tense up in anticipation of a contraction, and I know the tension makes it worse, but I just can't relax well. I think I come across as easy going, I have low blood pressure, but all the tension goes straight to my muscles.
I do get a little leery of the "hypno" part; though, from what I can tell, the Church puts self hypnotism as a means of pain control in a category with other medical interventions NOT in a category with classic Freudian hypnotism where someone addresses your subconscious, etc...
But I just can't find any references specifically pertaining to hypnobirthing from a Catholic viewpoint. I had thought of just taking the class to see if anything struck me as too New Agey or dangerous in any way, but it costs $200, and that's a lot to spend on checking it out. I also want to know for certain if I want to do it before I discuss spending the $$ with dh. I'm pretty sure if I went in with any doubts, it would influence whether he'd think it worthwhile, yk?

I think I've referenced it, but I didn't really formally announce. (Is there an "official" way to do that?). I keep meaning to edit my siggy. I'm due in September; so, I have a while to decide about the birthing thing.

Lindsay,
Wanted to add that I have a Karl, whose birthday is 6/16! It is unusual to find that spelling of that particular name. Dh and I met in Munich, Germany, which is what prompted me to use that spelling for us.
God bless!

Our Karl is Karl Josef named after Karol Jozef (JPII), but my husband is very proud of our German heritage; so, we went with the German instead of the Polish.
Since naming him, we've discovered Blessed Karl Josef, the last Emperor of Austria. Between him and Saint Henry, we seem to be following quite the monarch trend in naming. Not sure what we'll come up with if we have a boy to go with those two names...(that hasn't already been used by the other 40 grandchildren on my dh's side).
