Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've bitten the bullet and ordered a co-sleeper having dithered about it for ages. (To buy or not to buy? Full size or mini? Secondhand or new? Bla bla bla...)

My latest wibble is -- what to put over the baby? I've found that sheets and blankets are fairly useless for my wriggly gang, but if I dress him in a sleeping bag (which my crib-sleepers always used to wear) and then he falls asleep in bed with me, won't he overheat?

Please advise (and excuse this pregnant-woman paranoia -- you'd really think I should know what I'm doing by now...)

I dress in flannels and socks and have baby in a sleeping bag (LOVE the bag -- great for quick changes and staying warm). I just do a blanket over the bottom half of me. I've done this for all my winter babies and I haven't noticed any overheating. Philip sleeps in my arms (rarely makes it back to the co-sleeper). My third was also a winter baby and followed the same routine... I didn't notice any overheating with him either. We also keep our heat below 64 F... HTH!!

I've never used a sleeping bag. Basically, I used thinner sleepers during the day and thicker ones at night. They have often spent a lot of time cuddled with me, and if it ever felt super cold, I would share a thin blanket with them.

I have a co-sleeper, and I always swaddle my babies until they are too big for the blanket, or kick it off themselves. I find that when I have the baby in bed next to me, I keep the sheets down around my waist, so I don't worry about them overheating. Swaddling seems to also help them stay asleep when I move them back to the co-sleeper (if I am still awake!).

We keep our house cool - 65 degrees - so I dress my 6mo warmly at night. We have a 4yo who insists on sharing our bed so the baby is in the co-sleeper except for when I nurse him. With the co-sleeper he is close, but not close enough to benefit from our body heat. I don't have a sleeping bag for him but if I did I would use it. As far as the "pregnant woman paranoia", I had it too! Don't worry, baby will be born and your instincts will kick in and you will just "know" what to do . It wont be long now will it?!
