We are in the market for bunk beds and are having a hard time finding anything we like and/or is affordable in the stores.   I couldn't believe the selection and number of whole stores dedicated online to bunk beds, however. We have found many we like, but I'm not sure about ordering "sight unseen".

Have any of you ordered bunk beds this way, particularly from SimplyBunkBeds or other bunk bed online companies?

OR, anyone in NOVA/Baltimore/Ellicott City, MD area have suggestions for furniture stores carrying a nice supply of bunks? That is another option as we will be going through there on our way to grandparents next month.

Thanks for your help.

Our Ikea bunk bed has lasted twelve years, through several moves. Pretty plain, just unstained pine, but good quality.

I think you can order online. There is an Ikea in Woodbridge VA, just south of NoVa, at Potomac Mills. There is also one near Baltimore, I believe.

BJS has a very nice sturdy bunkbeds - you can go see them in the stores.

Try Costco if you have one nearby. This is the time of year they always have bunkbeds. We have two sets from them (bought 2 different years, so they are different from each other).

We go to the Costco in Manassas, I don't know how far that is for you. But they are having a furniture "show" right now, and there are two different sets to choose from. I can't remember the prices but I know both sets were less than $900 (probably more like 8 or 700??)

Oh and there is an American BunkBed store, I think, (at least it was there last summer?) in Chantilly off of 50 by the Babies R Us. Maybe they are online. We went into the store and they had nice items, but their prices were more than the Costco prices...so we thought we'd just wait till Costco got them again.

I second the IKEA recommendation. We love ours--and they delivered!

IKEA in College Park MD had some white metal bunkbeds on clearance for $50 just before Christmas--don't know if they still have any...

I vote for Ikea, too. I don't like the "style" of most of their furniture (to sparse, modern... and frankly, European!) BUT the bunkbeads are great, and they are sturdy!

Peace,
Macmom

The Chantilly Great American Bunkbed closed a few months ago. Maybe the Dulles one is still open?

Ours are also Ikea. There is a store just a minute off of I-95 north of Baltimore (exit 67B).

I have two different kinds of IKEA bunk beds. They are both great, and were delightfully inexpensive.

5 or 6 years ago now we bought our first set of bunkbeds for our older girls. I had seen a set I liked in a catalog from Sears, but thought they were too expensive. I searched online and found the identical beds from some company I had never heard of for $100 less. I took a chance and went with the unknown company and was pleasantly surprised. The bunk beds arrived by truck with no problems. They are wonderful. I can't remember the details, but there was something wrong with one or two of the decorative knobs on the four corners of the top bunk. I contacted the company and they promptly sent out replacement pieces.

Hopefully, if you decide to go with an online source, you will have a similarly positive experience.

Do the Ikea bunkbeds take standard sized mattresses?

Easily. We have had one set for 14 years. The girls unbunked them, and they have a matching set of twin beds. And the pine ages to a lovely honey color.
