Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For about two weeks now, she won't nap until maybe 4pm.

Eight months old, fourth child.

She sleeps in her crib from 7 or 8 pm - 5 or 6 am.

I am not drinking anything with caffeine.

I am not on the go - at home with her pretty much every day except Wed afternoon and Sunday morning.

We nurse, sing, rock or sometimes I put her down awake - she just doesn't seem tired until late afternoon.

Any ideas?

I presume this is one nap a day? How early is she waking up in the morning?

She typically wakes up around 5 am and I bring her to bed to nurse lying down for a while. We often go back to sleep and wake up closer to 6 or 6:30.

I thought she was transitioning to one nap beginning around 10 or 11 am, but she won't go down at that time lately.

I try again with her after lunch and that doesn't go over either.

I just got her to sleep (5pm) by swaddling her and jiggling her in my arms for 10 minutes, put in a pacifier, put her down and she woke up right away.

Now I have to start making dinner!

You'd think I'd have this figured about by my fourth child, but I guess every baby is different!

I've got a non-napper, too. He's now the Amazing Non-Napping Toddler! He's my 4th, too. He won't nap unless he's nursing, so I end up napping, too. It's not working out so well for me, but nothing I've tried works. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful or optimistic, but at least I can be sympathetic.

everyone of mine did this. by the 4th kid, i wised up and accepted it. i used a sling as often as i could manage. once i got the baby to sleep, learned to sit so that the baby would stay asleep and i would read books during that time. for my kids, this weird non-napping seemed to have something to do with the transition of that particular age. as soon as they could walk, they 'grew out' of 20 min power napping. it was a long 3-4 months on me though! i hope you find some way to accept it or figure out how to change it.

Lydia is 8 1/2 months old and isn't much of a napper. She goes down around 11PM at night, and is up for the day around 8AM. She will sometimes nap about 30 minutes around 11, and another 30 minutes around 5PM, but that's it for her.

It's different because I could set my clocks by my boys' naps -- but she just doesn't seem to need much sleep. Every few days she naps longer, or more often - but there's no consistency to it.

She's a happy, playful baby so I'm not worried about it. She likes to be in the thick of it!

Thanks, everyone! It just got me wondering if I am doing the wrong thing or if I am too busy with the older children that I am missing her cues.

Today she took a 90 minute nap in the morning. This afternoon she slept 30 min and woke up with a poopy diaper. I hope someday she has a nap I can count on!
