Has anyone seen this movie? We do the PACE program for part of our religion and for the work section it recommends watching this. My mom said she thought it had some pretty big war scenes. We got it from netflix so I was wndering if I need to skip through anything.

Is this the movie:
From Netflix:
Aimless ex-soldier Homer Smith (Sidney Poitier) is on his way to California when his car overheats in the desert. He stops to get some water at an isolated farm and soon finds himself building a chapel for the nuns who live there. The stern mother superior (Lilia Skala) is certain God has sent Smith for just that purpose, and all of Smith's words to the contrary fall on deaf ears in this Oscar-winning film from director Ralph Nelson.
There are no war scenes in this movie. My kids and I love this movie, and I have seen it several times......and the play, too. Quietly hysterical.
I think your mom is thinking of a different movie, FLANDERS FIELDS, maybe? That would be about WWI........there in a sweet picture book by that name.......sweet but sad. I do not see a netflix movie for that title though.

This was filmed at the sweet little shrine, 10 minutes from our house. (St. Rita's). GREAT movie, we've watched it for family night. No war scenes.
Not about the movie, but about the shrine they use in the movie-
Great story. A Catholic Japanese doctor married an American woman and died leaving her a fortune. She used the money to construct the lovely shrine to Santa Rita in the Desert, in Vail, Arizona. It has some very nice woodwork, and a relic of St. Rita kept by her statue. You are just asked to pray for the repose of his soul.
Peace,
Macmom

Yes that's the movie.
Oh good! Thanks so much! I really couldn't see the writer of the PACE program recommending a movie that wouldn't be for children
That is a great story about the shrine! How neat!
We'll be watching it tonight!

We LOVE Lilies of the Field here -- the kids watch it (and have watched it since they were itty bitties -- so definitely nothing wrong in it) at least 2x per year!
We love the German sisters. It is supposedly based on the founding of the Benedictine order at St. Walburga Abbey that is now just at the border of Wyoming and Colorado, but was originally built in Boulder,CO (when Boulder was still really rural). There are still a few of the original sisters at Walburga and it is still a delight to see their tenacity!
