My kids got some of those pocket calendar things and were putting everyone's birthdays and such in them.
They notice there are no birthdays in July, August, November, and December. Other than Jesus, of course.
They recruit son age 7 to ask me, "Mom if you want a baby to be born in July, August, November, or December, when do you have to put it in the tummy?"
I tell him, he goes back and tells the others. I decide I might want to know what this is all about...
They huddle over the kitchen table..
"Would it be good to have a brother or a sister?"
"I'd like a sister. Bridget is really nice if you give her what she wants."
"We've got lots of brothers and Tobey fights for all the toys. He doesn't share anything."
"Well, we have to take what they give and make the best of it."
"Yeah. They never ask us what WE want."
"It's up to God they [mom/dad] say."
Much murmurring about the unjustness of the distribution system...
They decided they'd still like another during one of those months.
More huddle time.
"Okay, we've got to be real quiet and leave them alone a lot so they can sneak it in."
At this point I make my presence known! "Why do you think you have to be quiet and leave us alone alot and sneak what in?"
9 yr old son, "Well you said it's private just between moms and dads and we've never seen or heard you do it, so I think moms and dads must have to be really sneaky to do it."
6 yr old daughter pipes up with, "Yeah.. You're good, mom. I can't even keep my toys hidden away from around here! Not even the tiny ones! I don't know how you hide those babies until it's time to put them in tummies!! That's a real miracle alright!"
Mom laughs too hard to form a coherent sentence.
Have you ever thought you could make millions on YouTube if you had recording systems constantly picking up all these things your kids say? I'm going to miss all these silly things the most when they are grown, I think.
As it is, IF I have another Bridget will be over 2 years old by the time another could be born. We've never had a 2 yr old without a baby sibling before. Never thought I'd say it, but it's rather saddening. Dh is starting to get a bit vocal about kicking Bridget out of our bed (to be fair she is vicious to sleep with and takes up the entire queen bed), but I can't help thinking I should savor these things as long as possible. You never know which one will be your last, right?

That is so hilarious!!!! I would have loved to see the looks on their faces too while they were huddled and then when they were talking to you. My kids always have the funniest looks on their faces.
