Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This post crosses over into multiple areas: "the more, the merrier," "not of my flesh," and the book club fora.

I recently finished reading a memoir by the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Tony Dungy.

He has 3 biological children (one of whom is no longer here) and 3 adopted children, the youngest being about a year old. He is almost 52.

His in-laws took/take in foster children and adopted some of them in addition to having biological children.

Near the end of the book, Coach Dungy wrote, “When I see my in-laws, now in their eighties with a high schooler and middle schooler at home, I’m sure that I’m seeing my future.”

Wow, how edifying... both his in-laws and he and his wife.
