Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Declan Liam arrived August 6 2005 at 9:39am

He weighed in at 9lbs 9 oz and is 20 inches long
Our biggest baby so far!
I had been scheduled to be induced a few days earlier but luckily the hospital was full and I wasn't considered an emergency. So, my water broke at home friday night at 9pm (about 10 minutes after DH walked in the door) and we got to experience non induced labor for the first time, as well as driving to the hospital during labor. DH was a little more flustered then we realized as he forgot to get off the elevator with me upon arrival to the labor and delivery floor! The elderly men waiting with me for the elevator to come back found this amusing especially after I explained that it was not our first baby- but fifth! Everything went great, the kids at home were all so excited that they stayed awake until about 2am waiting for news. They were all tired the next morning when we finally had news for them! Several nurses commented on how well behaved the olders were and that we were the biggest family they'd seen for a while. I cried when my oldest held my youngest and sang to him. And although I am only three days post partum, I am already praying that are family is not complete yet.
Just wanted to thank all of you for your prayers, and support through the last few months!

Typing one handed while nursing at 4:30am,

Jen

We husbands have it so rough during the whole labor and delivery thing...cut us some slack.

Congratulations, Jen, and welcome back!

I'm with T.
It's not easy providing birth support in a world that is infused with the peculiar belief that childbirth is a "Women only" area. Husbands that take their job seriously and intend to be there with Mother and child from conception to birth and onwards sometimes have to fight for their rights to be with their wives at the critical moments.
The hospital staff are normally quick to shove us aside at the flimsiest excuse and we have to stand our ground. I have had this for all the children although I only really noticed it with the last few when I wouldn't get pushed aside.
Mind you, forgetting to get out of the elevator doesn't start of the time on a good footing!

God Bless your whole family! I guess you can skip the newborn size diapers and move right into the size 1 diapers!
9 lb. 9 oz. Very impressive!

Aw.......David! I am so sorry to hear this....and that this is your experience. On behalf of the hospital staff in MY hospital.........we would like to welcome you to give birth with us. We are a great place to deliver.....doctors AND nurses are EXCELLENT, if I do say so myself.......which I DO. And we DO NOT push husbands aside........we NEED their help!

Now, back to the topic at hand! Congratulations to Declan Liam and his whole family! I loved hearing your birth story.......I am a birth story junkie! :)

Enjoy your babymoon........I loved the time after my fifth baby!

Love, a labor and delivery nurse,

Perhaps smaller hospitals are more accomodating Chari. My small hospital allowed my husband to watch my c-section (no sitting by my head--he was eyes wide open where the action was) and they let him cut the cord, just as he had done with everyone else (except Nicholas, then Christian (8) did the honors). From my limited birth attendant experience, I definitely felt needed by the nursing staff--they were spread pretty thin.
