Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do you fall into bed at the end of the day speechless and nearly numb with exhaustion? Is this just a reality of raising a bunch of small kids? This is as much Bill's question as mine....

Oh boy, some days yes. Some days we get into bed and we can't stop smiling!

OK, so Rebecca and I both collapse into bed nightly full of joy, but wondering, "How do we beat the battle fatigue?"

Really, guys, is this something we just have to wait out, or do you have some helpful secret for keeping your energy up? Coffee? Vitamins? Exercise? Amphetamines? HELP!

I think some tiredness is part of the picture   - hey, my youngest is 11 and I still have some nights when I go to bed bone tired!

What helped me a lot was making sure I ate well and did some exercise. I know, we seem too busy for these things but they did ( do) make a difference in our eneryg levels. Eat regularly, eat well, work out a bit...

Cat naps helped when the kids were little, too. Just putting my feet up for 10 minutes while I fed a baby or while I read aloud or watched the kids play in the garden or at the park. These 10 minutes of sitting
( sometimes with a cup of tea!) were rejuvenating. Otherwise, I would go all day and be exhausted at dinner time.

I still have to remind myself to take time to sit every now and then, or I tend to stand and do things all day, all the time...

Truly, Rachel - I only fall into bed exhausted when I'm pregnant. I presume that's due to the double body work and no coffee - which even when I can drink it, I only imbibe in the morning.

But... I'm only dealing with my four littles instead of littles and older kids. And... I don't try to do it all. My house looks like kids live in it; I don't exercise per se, but I keep up with the boys; I try to eat a salad every night for dinner; I go to bed at a decent hour to get 8 hours of -- albeit broken -- sleep; I take a daily multi-vitamin; and I drink tons of water. I have a super helpful husband. I like Leonie's advice about breaks. And doing my modified flylady in those 15 minute spurts has kept me from overdoing anything.

A huge factor is that I'm blessed with a high energy temperament, good health and a high metabolism.

Truly I remember growing up that my Mom would get tired and grumpy, but now she's a bundle of energy at 67 -- I can't keep up with her... and she's 30 years my senior. She plays with my kids non-stop. So... I figure that will be us when we get more sleep.

However, right now... being 16 weeks pregnant, I'm tired... glad to be tired, wouldn't switch it tired, but tired.

I'm absolutely exhausted in the evening. I never nap, although I'd like to, I just have too many young non-nappers who get into serious mischief.
