My dd's baby born July 9 has had an abnormal PKU result. The doctor says it is for MCAD (a fatty acid disorder). He said it could be fatal and has put her on Levo-caritinne, (sp?) which is an enzyme (I believe).
Does anybody know anything about this or had similar experiences? She is being rescreened today and we hope it was a false positive.

My twins had a false positive for a metabolic disorder when they were born. It was a very stressful time for us, wondering if they were ok, and having to get lots of bloodwork done etc... but it turned out ok.

The thing I learned, is that there are many good resources out there if she ends up actually having the disease.

Go to savebabies.organd you can read a bunch of Family stories to get an idea of how people are coping with these metabolic disorders.

In most cases, if you find out very early on about the disorder, it is a thousand times easier to treat and manage.

I'll pray !! Keep us updated.

My third babies first test came back abnormal and we had to retest. He was (is) fine. Prayers for you and your baby.
