Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I had my first antenatal appointment today. It was all a bit unsatisfactory -- I took the dc, who were perfectly behaved for the first 45 minutes of the wait but climbing the walls once an hour had passed

I explained, 'I've come to book in for antenatal care.' The doc said, 'Wow! Antenatal care! And you've already got three!' (And?) She then ran through the usual questions, including, 'Was it planned?'

Well, it wasn't exactly but I don't see why that's any of her business. I also wasn't going to get into a discussion of the ethics of openness to life etc. So I just smiled sweetly and said, 'Yes.'

What do you say if asked this question?

i do the same - i say yes. we are open to how ever many God sends us. they usually do not know what to say at that point and it stops the questioning.

Sometimes they continue with the usual comments on my sanity, patience etc. I just try to take it all in stride.

I'll pray for you and your patience with the comments. They usually pick up when you are pregnant with number 4.

Libet, will you be my Cyrano?

Elizabeth, I say they same as Mary, sometimes more, sometimes less depending on where the conversation needs to go. At the doctor I say "yes" too.

I have had the same dr for the last 8 babies. I think they finally decided not to ask anymore when, baby after baby, I told them that "yes, this baby was planned and that we are going to have more after this one."

I get that question...mostly because I just had the twins a month ago, and people want to know whether we were "trying" for a boy (after three girls)...and then whether we are "planning" anymore..

Well, I tell them we'll take whatever God sends us, IF He sends anymore. I'm pretty much leaving it up to Him.

Oh well. THey don't know what they are missing, lol.

Rachel

My dh, ever quick with wit, has been known to say in utter shock, "No! I tripped on fell on her!"

If it's a dr I say yes it was. The question is an evaluation tool. e.g. Unplanned pregnancy =
ignorace, low income, lack of medical care, raised ppd and child abuse risk, may need ABC &/or abortion counseling. Personally, I think that's all blarney, but I know that's what the question is for.

If it's not a dr, I tell them we accept whatever lives God sends our way, whenever He decides to send them.

Congratulations Elizabeth!

I have never been able to figure out this question! They were amazed when we had 5, surprised that we had 6, stunned that we had 7, speechless when we announced 8 (which we lost)....and yet they wonder if we're done yet????? By gosh, does it look like we know??

Thanks, everyone. Just nice to know that I'm not alone.

Oh, and while we're talking about tired old phrases, I just can't wait for the question, 'Don't you have a tv?' (Actually, no we don't...!)

"Why on EARTH would I watch TV when:

okay then...how about witty quips for the age old "my you've got your hands full"...some days it makes me want to scream when rational adults watch me struggle to get five kids and three hundred dollars worth of groceries in the car in the rain and the only help they can think to offer is "the hands full" comment... whoops can you tell that wasn't a hypothetical situation! sorry

"Better full than empty!"

Or "Yes I do!" with a BIG smile

I get this one often. I reply "Yes, and so are our hearts." Not very witty.. but it has sometimes surprised the commenter.

Blessings,

Usually I just smile and nod.

Inside I'm daring myself to say, "Yeah, but your hands look pretty empty so how 'bout helping me PUSH THIS CART!"

I always do the grocery shopping with all 5 and people love to say "You've got your hands full!" So I reverse it on them and give my "hands full" a name.. So I usually will say.. "Would you like to meet my "Hands Full?" This is Kaleigh, Brett, etc etc... so then they don't just look at numbers , they looks at faces. I think I wrote this somewhere else.. when people ask "Are you done??" My dh decided to say, " Done for this year"
