I've never been good at swaddling my kids but i came across this on the internet. I'm due in Oct. with our 3rd child and i thought this might be nice to have. Has anyone used this before and if so, did you like it? TIA!

Hi,
I didn't use that particular brand but I did buy something similar with my third. I really liked them, it was much easier to swaddle without having all that bulky blanket. I bought mine a Babies R Us and I think they cost only $9 - $12 depending on if they were fleece or just the stretchy cotton. If you have one near, you might check there to get a look at one. Hope that helps.

My friend just loves the Swaddle Me which looks kind of similar to the Miracle Blanket. She loved how easy and cozy it was, without the fuss of trying to figure out how to swaddle.
I loved swaddling my kids, and I think that blanket is a great help for moms!

We got the Swaddle Me for our 3rd baby, and absolutely LOVED it! Ds stayed in it and it kept him nice and toasty at night (not too hot thought, mind you). Makes me wish I had thought of it. Future Kelly babies will all use the Swaddle Me!!

Thanks for this thread. on our first outing to the pediatrician today, I got dh to stop by the local baby store where I returned a gift and got a Swaddle Me! Kolbe is sleeping snugly right now. He has to be swaddled tight or else he starts to put his thumb in his mouth, then scratches his face and wakes himself up! No more!

I used the Miracle Blanket, and for us, there was no substitute. My baby was squirmy and nothing els would have held him, not even the Swaddle Me. We called our Miracle Blanket" the "baby straitjacket," but it worked.

How long did you use the Miracle Blanket for, Philothea? Thank you! Someone else from another board recommended it. I like how it doesnt use any velcro/buttons to keep it fastened, just the babies weight.

The baby's weight was the key for us. He was strong enough to break the tension of velcro, but not strong enough to roll over, so his own weight kept the Miracle Blanket in place perfectly. The fabric is so soft, and it was easy to wash. We used ours a long time, even after the leg portion was too short -- we just wrapped his upper body and left his legs free. He was an eye-rubber (we even have ultrasound pictures of him doing this), and would always wake himself up, so this blanket was a Godsend. I'm thinking he was 6 or 7 months old when we finally stopped using it because he was rolling over consistently.

Would I need to Swaddle Me for #5 who is due in July - my first summer baby (not counting preemies) - or will it be too warm. (we are in No Va) I am finding it hard to figure out what clothes to have for a regular size newborn in July. Having had winter babies or tiny preemies (who were constantly swaddled) - I do not know how warm to keep the baby. Despite 3 other boys - I will have to go out and get some clothes as I have no summer things for Newborn/0-3m. Can they wear just onesies? Socks? Hats?

Marilyn, simple onsies are perfect for summer babies. As are those lighter weight sweetpea gowns. In July, I don't think I'd even bother with bitty baby socks. Some light receiving blankets are good for the cooler mornings and evenings. I had an August baby and it was so hot I would literally keep him in the sling naked most of the day. I tend to have bigger babies and I don't even bother with more than one package of 0-3 onsies or t-shirts. I guess it depends on the size of the little guy.
I'm sorry I can't help ya on the swaddle blanket, as I've never used one. Our wrap swaddles very well though in all weather! :)

According to the website, if you dont want to overheat the baby, you can swaddle the baby just in his/her diapers.

I had a Sept. baby and i was living in N. FL at the time. It's still very much summer in Sept. there. Dd just wore onesies most of the time and i still swaddled her at night with the regular swaddling blankets. I never bothered with socks or hats.

The Swaddle Me comes in both a micro fleece and a cotton version. We're in No. VA as well, and I was still using the fleece one up until a couple of weeks ago. And I was putting him in just his diaper. Colin is 5 months now. He just slept better in the Swaddle Me. After awhile he was able to wiggle one hand out of the swaddle, but he just stuck it in his mouth.

I have a miracle blanket that I am currently using with my 2.5 month old. I didn't get it until he was 4 weeks, and I love it! I use it every night and it helps him to sleep for longer stretches. He's a wiggly baby, and was startling himself with his movements at night, so this has really helped to make a difference. A swaddleme probably would have worked, but I had some extra gift $ and decided to go for the miracle blanket because of the long "arms" it has to really wrap around the baby. I thought th velcro would pop open on the other because he is so active, but it might have been fine.

Thanks for all the information. I am looking forward to a shopping trip soon - I am almost sold on the miracle blanket or swaddle me.

We used a Miracle Blanket with my youngest and LOVED it. He did great in it (and slept wonderfully) until about 5 months. The transition to sleep without it was a bit rocky--but well worth the 5 months of great sleep.
He was a July baby, and even with the air conditioning on I felt like he only needed a diaper on under the blanket.
