This little treasure was found at our library used book sale. I have heard of this book, but couldn't ever put my hands on it. So glad I finally found it! What a special, beautiful story!

Thanks, Kiera, for mentioning this and congrats on your find! It is a very sweet story, I am familiar with it from some short story collections but I guess I hadn't realized that there were picture book versions. This one looks nice. I see that there are several other editions with different illustrators. Does any one have any other versions/editions to recommend that they like?

And thinking this would be a good book for Easter season - for both the Passion and the coming of springtime themes.

There's a dvd that more just the pics from the book than any sort of animation.. it's also lovely.

I remember it from childhood. We had it on cassette tape with a book.. it usually was pulled out when we were in bed sick.
