I've lost track of what thread originally mentioned Bruce Coville and
Shakespeare... but a big THANK YOU to whoever it was!
My library has several of these picture books, and my dc are crazy about them. Let's just say that if I try to stop reading one in the middle- to break it up over two days- small hands reach out and hold me down on the couch so I can't get up 
The pictures really make these stories come alive for my dc. I like that, although the stories are adapted, much of the dialogue is right from Shakespeare, including many of the more famous lines.
These books have really made Shakespeare come alive for my dc in a way that Shakespeare for Young children never has. I just wish they weren't out of print

Yes, these are really, really fun! We have read all of them over the years, and in the first couple of years of doing Shakespeare, I chose the plays that these books were available in. Super helpful to get those younger kids into Shakespeare!

Yes! I was amazed at how clearly the stories are told. We read Midsummer's Night Dream last week and even I understood what was going on better than I ever did (and I've even ACTED in that play in high school!). I love how there are bits of the original language sprinkled in there too...

bruce coville shakespeare books are great! try his other books too, you're sure to find more to enjoy.
we were introduced to him through the "dragon slayers".
we listened to it on tape and my then 5 yo son would collapse laughing at the opening line:"bring me the lizard snot!"

Oh good! I was able to order inexpensive used copies for the Shakespeares I'd planned for each term.
I saw that Audible has the whole collection, but I'm guessing that the illustrations are part of what makes it engaging. Still, audio versions are nice for rereads!

That is just how I felt... l could finally , clearly understand the story!
And enjoy it! My kids are still debating whether Bottom looked better with or without the donkey's head.

We are loving these! My son loves how they incorporate some of the actual text. These are really helping him see the whole storyline.

We just finished up his version of Hamlet. That story has so much going on and so many layers of intrigue that it's not a wonder I never really understood it before now!
We also just finished up Diane Stanley's The Bard of Avon.
My dd especially enjoyed the pictures in this one.
But, IMO, the real bonus was the very last pages, after the story ended.
The author discusses spelling- or the lack there of- in Shakespeare's time.
Shakespeare's name has been spelled 80 different ways! My favorite is
"ShakeStaff."
There is also a section detailing the many phrases and words Shakespeare gave us... about 2,000!
Jenn- your ds might really enjoy that.

Shakespeare Pop-up Globe Theatre
Can't believe I found this for $2 at our library book sale. My dc are having a ball with this!
